Word is that could be the name for the upcoming MINI Cooper Cabrio. Whatever it's called the car is expected to go on sale in the UK sometime in the middle of '04. I would expect the US would be close behind.
From other photos we can tell the boot will be bottom hinged (ala the original Mini) and that the roof shouldn't interfere too much with the space of the backseats. Also it looks as if they've moved the antenna to just above the middle of the windscreen. This particular picture is from The Car Connection. There are more in the “Pictures” section of bridger.us/mini.
[Update] It looks like there will also be a Cooper S version of the MINI Cabrio.

For all you with keen eyes out there yes that is an X3 behind the MINI.

Too bad it's not an S Cabrio.

I have yet to hear anything about an MCS Cabrio – but what's wrong with it being a Cooper :)

I like it. Much nicer than a Miata. :-)

Very ungainly looking. I know I am not in the minority when it comes to criticize the looks of the MINI OPEN. The car has a cheap looking canvas roof a huge blind spot caused by the poorly designed "C-Pillars".

I don't suscribe to the theory that every car has to be turned into a convertible. What makes the MINI such a beautiful, balanced and stunning design is the "Lid" style hard top roof. The solid roof is what makes the MINI the car it is and removing it for the sake of open air motoring completely ruins the design fluidity and looks.

I think MINI should instead concentrate in bringing back a version of the late classic Mini Traveller wagon. That's the one I really want in my driveway!.

I'm force to agree with Frank. It is rather ugly looking.
