WITH THREE MONTHS AND 7200 miles logged on our Mini Cooper S, we’re happy to report no significant problems.

Perhaps the worst we can say about the car is that virtually everyone we encounter is enamored of it. Let’s just say it’s wise to allot an extra 30 minutes (at least) for any given trip. Simple runs to the gas station, carwash or store tend to evolve into showroom-type walk-arounds. People flock to the Mini like the Duke boys to moonshine. And it’s not just the parking lot crowd. We rarely see so many smiles behind the windshields of our fellow commuters as when they spot us.

If those drivers look closely, they see our smiles as well. “With the Mini, I’m back in my early teens, with the same ear-to-ear grin I wore whenever I would drive my go-kart,” one editor says.

As one staff member noted after a game of twilight follow-the-leader with another local Cooper driver, “This is why I drive.”
