The Chicago MINI Club Downtown Rally: Photos

First a big thanks to everyone for coming out and joining us. It was great to meet some new people and get to know others of you a bit more. We had about 30 MINIs and aroound 55 people come out to enjoy a perfect Chicago Saturday morning.

It was also the Chicago MINI Club's first day of being open for business and we now have 25 full members!

If anyone has their own that they'd like to share feel free to email them to gabriel@bridger.us or post them online and link to them via the comment section below.

My family and I had a great time.. Fun drive, good food, and a handfull of new people I hadn't met before (as well as all the people I had met before). Thanks everyone!

Mary and I had a great time as well. Nice meeting you all!

Maxwell, were you in the MINI with temporary Illinois plates?

Paul Jul 13th, 2003 Link Reply to this comment

What an awesome day. Sounds great. Sorry I wasn't there. Though I am sure Saturday is the perfect day for the majority of the club members, I and a few others I know of work every Saturday. Do you think it would be possible, or even a good idea, to have 15 – 20% of the functions on Sunday? I want to play!

Paul – Our September event will take place on Sunday September 7th. You can check out all the details here.

Drew- Nope. Pure Silver/Black with Enviro plates: COOP.

Ok, Maxwell, I saw you there too. I'm still trying to match some of the posters I see here with faces and MINI's I see at the events. :)

I'm salivating, wishing I could have been there! Here in L.A. it's hard enough getting parking. (My wife is the Chicagoan while I'm a SoCal native.) I enjoyed viewing the snapshots. Got a smile out of the ones of that tower of cars- I remember it from last summer.

My one question, how did you ever get all those parking spaces in front of the Adler?

Gabe Jul 13th, 2003 Link Reply to this comment

Well we met at 8am and the Museums don't open until 9am. Because of that we were all able to park on the street just in front of Adler. However to take photos of the city in the background we turned around to the other side of the street and temporarily used a bus lane. Because it wasn't 9am yet buses weren't running and the police weren't really on regular patrol yet.

So really what you see in this photo aren't actually parking spaces but what you see in this photo are.

What a wonderful day for a drive! The route and stops were fun, the cars all looked their best, and every driver had a good time. It's always a thrill to see that many MINIs on the road together. We have 20+ MINIs already set for out September Baseball Rally. Join us for that drive if you can! Ron.

dot-scott Jul 14th, 2003 Link Reply to this comment

the best part was definitely once we got out of the city and into some nice curves and hard turns.

well, except maybe for when a gang of us blew by that heavily body panelled white civic on lake shore drive!

september huh? i don't know if my car or myself can wait that long…

cheers!

Gabe, GREAT PICS! I had an awesome time! It was so great to meet everyone too! Looking forward to the next event. Did I hear something about a drive in August???

Great pics! It looks like the first official event was successful! Sorry I had to miss it due to jetlag as well as beerlag from my trip to the UK. Saw tons of MINI's (old and new) over there and the owners are just as wild about their cars as we yanks are. Looking forward to the Milwaukee Rally :-).

I wasn't able to attend this event but I heard that a few folks were looking for amateur racing venues. The local SCCA Solo2 clubs have events avilable throughout the summer. This weekend 7/20/03 there will be an event at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin by the WAI club http://waiautox.org/.

There's a lot of autocross info links available on http://home.comcast.net/~nxracer/.

Please e-mail me for more info if you are interested.

Sorry we missed the drive. We had a great time on the previous drives. But… we were kidnapped and had to spend the weekend in Joliet.

Kim Jul 24th, 2003 Link Reply to this comment

That drive was the most fun we had since our vacation in May. We were giggling the entire time we were surrounded by all of the Minis. We loved it and can't wait to go to the game! See everyone there! Giddyup : )
