Extending the Full Maintenance on Your MINI

MINIUSA has just released information on extending the 3 years/36,000 mile full maintenance program to 4 years/50,000 miles. Apparently the brochures haven't hit the dealers yet but the paperwork has. The price will be $499.

Full maintenance of course includes all factory-recommended service and replacement of items that aren't covered under the standard warranty like brake pads, rotors, wiper blades etc. “Any adjustments required due to normal operating conditions are also included”.

I'd be curious to see how many people actually take MINI up on this offer. I'm contemplating it right now. Anyone have any thoughts positive or negative on the program? Also I'm curious to hear what MINI offers in other countries in regards to extended maintenance.

Off hand I cannot remember when the major service intervals fall, and what they cost, but I think there is a major service required between 36 and 48K. If so, and you were going to have the dealer do it anyway, there may not be a big difference between the $499 -or whatever you can bargain it down too- and the cost of the major service.

If so, the additional cost for a year of warrantee protection may not be that big.

if that includes the road-side assistance, then i'd take it.

I dunno…seeing as how I'm planning on eventually pullying and ECUing COOP, I don't know if it would really have much benefit.

One thing I didn't realize before: brake pads/rotors etc. are covered under warranty? Wow…that makes upgrading to performance brakes a much tougher call, considering that I can get free replacements from MINI….no?

They are actually covered in the maintenance program and not the warranty program.

I actually got Extended Maintenance for my MCS when i picked it up about 3 1/2 weeks ago. This it supposed to include a brake job somtime after the standard maintenance program runs out, which at the dealer will run about $600. Right there it seemed worth it, not to mention one or two extra oil changes. And it only raised my monthly payments a couple bucks. If you are going to use it, seems like a good idea.

I will be picking up my MINI this Friday. Not that exited about crawling under any car… If it comes down to a couple of bucks a month, I'll do it. Especially as this configuration have not been out that long.

I stopped by my dealer the other day (Autohaus of Clayton, in St. Louis)they had a flyer on the MINI “Full Maintenance Program” which is the extended 48 month, 50,000 mile program. They quoted me $600, is your price from MINI/USA? I think it is really a good deal at your price.

  • http://bridger.us/mini Gabe

They didn't have any brochures yet but they did have the actual MINIUSA contract and the BMW brochure (which apparently is the exact same program). It was my service advisor that told me about the $499 price tag.

  • Steve Dybedock

Can you pick-up this extension at any time, or is there a point at which they'll turn you down? For example, after one year of ownership, or “x” amount of miles?

  • http://bridger.us/mini Gabe

You can add it on any time before the 36K mark.

Out here in California, Concord Mini is selling the extended service package for $399.00.

  • http://bridger.us/mini Gabe

Wow – do that have official MINIUSA brochures with that price on them?

  • Skip

No. When we paid for the car (through BMW of Concord)it was an option that was offered. After we checked on the required service costs between 36K and 50K – we added it.

I think that the service extension varies from dealer to dealer. A friend of mine paid $699.00 for the package in So Cal. Another paid $499.00 for the same extension in Sacramento.

  • http://bridger.us/mini Gabe

So does this mean that this might be negotiable?

  • Skip

We didn't negotiate. It's just like the cost of the car itself, the mark-up varies from dealer to dealer, especially here on the left coast. Since you can add the extended maintenance later – shop around.

My receipt shows that this agreement is purchased through MINI NA. So it appears that the contract is actually purchased from the manufacturer through the dealer. I'd be really interested to know what the dealer's cost is. Anybody know?

I just ordered a 2004 Cooper S for October delivery. I live in CT and the dealer charged my $399 on the invoice. No negotiation.

Every Extended Warrantee i have ever seen has been a complete waste of money and actually costs you more than it saves you in the end. The only benefit i have ever seen is in refinancing. Usually you have to buy one to get refinanced. Read the fine print VERY closly and you will see what i mean. They will always get you on the “Regular Wear and Tear” clause. The service guys can usually construe that to mean anything they like.

This isn't an extended warranty but extended maintenance – covering about everything except tires and gas. All you have to do is look at the service schedule on the MINI to see that it will save you money over the course of it's term.

When I picked up my MCS, Cinn Mini offered the “extended maintenance for $349 which gives you 1 extra oil change and if your lucky, new pads and maybe rotors. The kicker is that they have to worn down to a min spec before they will replace. It's a “crap shoot”, but I paid my $ to play.

I have an 03 Mini Cooper with 31,800 miles. I contacted my selling dealer, Midwestern MINI in Dublin, Ohio inquirying about the Maintenance Extension. They quoted me a price of $600 dollars. I don not know if this is negotiable. I talked to my salesperson and we both concluded that the Maintenance program extension would not benefit me. For my vehicle, I probably wouldn’t need a brake replacement until after the 50k mark due to my driving habits I believe the only benefit I would receive would be a few oilchanges/oilservices. Even the coolant flush would fall in after the warranty period has ended. The salesperson at the dealership advised me that these warranties are sold as a pure generator of profit. Now, if a set of tires were included in the free maintenance I’d be all over it.

Thought I’d share my two cents.

Cincinnati MINI 513-271-8700 is selling the MINI Cooper Maintenance extension to 50,000 miles for $495.00. You can extend your warranty within the 3 year/36,000 mile period. Cincinnati MINI advised that if you are one mile over the 36k, MINI will not allow you to purchase the extension.

  • Michael

I have found the extended maintenance contract to have already paid for itself. I paid $499.00 for it and have already received the 25k service, new front brake pads and rotors (and prior to this, a brake fluid reservoir bleed and fill), replacement of defective reverse light, and two windshield wiper changes.

This means it was worth it for me. Like anything else, it could be a crap shoot as your car may not need all that much service in that extra period of time covered by the extension. But, for $499, I think it’s worth the investment.
