More great news from reader Brian Moore:
“While attending the MINI/Bimmer Fest in Limerock, CT, yesterday I spoke with the MINI rep in charge of accessory development, and was informed that '04 MINIs will come with an AC power adapter installed in the glove box (as standard equipment), intended to provide a power source for MP3 players, such as the iPod. He couldn't provide an exact date for the implementation of this change, but said that there would also be a retro-fit kit available as a dealer installed option.”
“More exciting was news that they are presently beta-testing a system that will allow an iPod to be controlled via the MFSW: this involves the provision of a connector in the glove box that allows the MP3 player to interface with the Boost deck. Kevin said that this would be an option that would roll out sometime in '04, but again could provide
no specific date.”
As a happy owner and avid user of the iPod this is absolutely the news I've been wanting to hear. With MINI's AUX port solution already available this was the last piece of the puzzle. I think it's quite funny that VW is marketing the “Pods Unite” promotion like it's some amazing feature when it's simply a cassette tape input with a Belkin cup holder mount. Way to go MINI – now market the heck out of this!
Now the question is how is this news related to this news?

This is amazing news. I have a 30gig iPod and this would bring two of my three favorite things in the world together! MINI just needs to figure out how to integrate TiVo too 🙂 I currently have a 2004 Cooper S on order (9/5/03 build date) – I hope any innovations developed later will retro fit.

Great site Mr. Bridger!

Reid.

This is fantastic news! Although I would have to spend a lot of money for the iPod itself plus the retrofitting of all parts…I guess, it's worth it!

This is my favorite MINIsite!
