Looks like CD 36, the supposed answer to the dreaded MINI stumble, should now be at the dealers. You can read more at this North American Motoring Thread.
According to early reports this update should fix the MCS stumble and uncomfirmed sources report that it eliminates the Cooper yo yo/power surge as well. However from what I've read the jury is still out in regards to the MCS yo yo/power surge.

For the life of me, I still cannot figure out why this is even an issue. I have a June 02 build MCS, and have never had any Yo-Yo or Stumbling problems… Why can't MINI figure out what was changed, and change it back?

Your one of the lucky owners! Mine is a stumbling fool but only in warm weather. My dealer promises the fix when it arrives at Asseal in Ca. Mine also is a '02 MCS. Is the weather cold where you live generally most of the year?

After 3k miles on my MCS, I experienced my first stumble today. I hope it's the last.

I'm reading all the time about this yo yo isue. I will get my new MCS this december. Can I expect the same problem on my car? Thanks…

Most likely not Vjeko

Good news for the stumble/ hiccup!!!!
I was lucky enough to have the CD 35 fix my small stumble. It's been a few months since the upgrade and we motor on without any stumble or hiccup…

I'm looking at getting a new 03 or 04 MCS. Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can test for this problem at the dealership? I'd like to test drive my purchase first to see if it has the dreaded problem. Hopefully, it won't.

RB.. Nope.. opposed to popular belief, Western New York is quite warm in the summer (humid also)… It wasn't too bad this summer, and I did take delivery in september, so I've only been thru one summer with it…

either way, I've always been hoping that someone will post a video of this happening…

Hi there- newbie to the site – and I have to say “Nice Job”.

I am wondering WHAT the “stumble” is precisely. Have an 02 Cooper, and the only problem that I think this might be referring to is a propensity I've seen where the engine dies from low RPMs sometimes (somewhat infrequently) when the clutch is engaged – or sometimes the revs dip really low and then come back up, again when the clutch is in.

Is that what you guys are talking about?

Yes that is the Cooper power surge. Software update 34 or 35 fixed mine greatly but didn't 100% eliminate it. Hopefully update 36 will. You can get these updates at your dealer.

John,

Mine goes like this: If I'm setting at a stop when I start to accelerate the car goes into an idle then slowly comes up to speed. I've been beat off the line by a '67 VW. If I'm stopped at a slope then I really have to have high RPMs to go forward. I also have a dead spot in very hard right or left cornering. Mine , '02 MCS, has stopped now that it has gotten cold in my area of California.

Gabe is CD 36 the official name?
Or just one given by us Mini owners. My dealer seems to not know about this fix.

Great, thanks for the info.

I had the update installed by Crevier MINI about 2 weeks ago on my November build '03 MC and I would say that it corrected about 98% of the problem. The shudder when slowing is totally gone, but not at idle, at least not completely. The stumble, which was the big one, does appear to be completely fixed. Of course, all of this only happens with the A/C on and it has to work (+65 degree outside temperature).

Hey Guys!
Just got CD36 installed this afternoon at MINI Peabody and yes, the stumble is GONE!! (woohoo!) FYI the version they are using is in fact in German. Ach to mein lieber!

Regards, Kurt

I have an '04 MC with CVT, and I experience a jerkiness at parking-lot speeds (1500-2000 RPM)…is this considered to be the “yo-yo”, and could CD36 possibly be the remedy to this malady?

Hey…been reading this site for a few months now but never posted before. I have just one question. In all these discussions, the stumble and yo-yo are discussed but no mention of the cold start issue…I have no stumble or yo-yo (thankfully), but it always takes 3-5 times cranking my June 03 MCS, to get it to start. Will CD 36 help my cold start problems at all?

I've had my 04 Mini for less than a month, but have had it back at the dealership twice already over this “shudder” when downshifting (clutch in, etc., as described above). Should this issue not already have been corrected by now, given that I've had it for only a few weeks and it's August 04?

Also, I may have missed it in the thread, but does the shudder/stumble/yo-yo cause any longer-term damage that anyone is aware of?
