Thanks, Gabe. Actually, I was wondering about the chrono (not chrome) gauge package – I happen to like having the oil temp/pressure gauges and moving the speedo to the steering column. Would be cool if this could be retrofitted.

Rumor has it that the chrome package will be available as an accessory to be retrofitted on older MINIs. I stress this is just a rumor I've heard.

Has any info been released about whether the optional chrono gauge package can be retrofitted to 2004 and earlier MINI Coopers?

That's been out for awhile everywhere but the US. It was actually delivered on 70+ US MINIs by accident during Dec of 2002. The all had to be brought back into dealers and the part swapped out. Seems it was never approved for sale (like the parcel shelf).

For my money the parcel shelf is much better.

When they say "the new MINI Cabrio comes in three different colors" I think they're referring to the dashboard and the door trim and not the seats etc. Many of these PR releases start out in German and some of their terminology isn't the same as ours.

I'm particularly interested in the chrome package. I've been holding off on buying the aftermarket alternative (on coopertuning.de) to see what MINI will offer in terms of a retrofit.

The aftermarket version is real metal, whereas MINI's version will probably be chromed plastic, judging from all the other chrome features standard on the Cooper. Hopefully the price will be lower in that case. :)
