The Dragon

As some of you know North American Motoring is helping to put on (along with a few very dedicated MINI enthusiasts) what will be one of the largest MINI gatherings all year – the Dragon. The event is centered around one of the best roads in North America and will include some driving, some socializing and even a chili cook-off. Here's some background information directly from Mark at NAM:

The Dragon is a stretch of US 129 that runs along the western portion of North Carolina over into Tennesse. In just 11 miles the road contains 318 turns…hair pins, sweepers, you name it and the Dragon has it. For drivers of enthusiast vehicles like the MINI this is the road that your car was designed for. For passengers this is the road that will make you wish you were driving…not wishing you had a barf bag handy. Last year several adventurous souls organized a gathering of MINI owners and a tradition was born. This year the event has been expanded to include a couple of dinners, multiple drives, and more opportunities to socialize. Be sure to join us for the fun as well as meeting the people you have come to know online!

Sounds amazing eh? Unfortunately MotoringFile will not be attending but I can assure you will be there in spirit.

I first did the Dragon in the 1960s… interestingly enough, in the back seat of my family's Morris 850 Mini. From that location, it did, in fact, make me wish I had a barf bag handy. Hehehe It IS truly the kind of road for which the Mini and MINI were designed.
