Details on the new 2005 MCS Supercharger

One of the many upgrades that we'll see on the 2005 MINI Cooper S is the use of Eaton's 5th Generation Supercharger. Here are some details on what's new:

The 5th Generation Superchargers incorporate an innovative rotor coating that allows for tighter internal clearances compared to previous applications. These tighter clearances allow for increased supercharger efficiency and performance, resulting in improved horsepower and torque at lower engine RPMs.

This coupled with shorter gearing should help decrease 0-60 times for the MCS. Hopefully we'll get some details soon on the improved exhaust and ECU – the other two upgraded components that help give the 2005 MCS an extra 7hp.

This is the info I posted on NAM. The question I have is what does this really mean. This has been on the JCW for quite some time, but the effect was never truly known because it was always with a combination of a lot of other products (i.e. pulley, ECU, exhaust….). Does this increase the boost, does the coating prolong the life of the supercharger, or does it decrease it? These would be great answers.

I actually have emailed Eaton about this a bit ago and am waiting to hear something back.

This news certainly raises some questions as to the continued viability of a JCW package for the 2005 Cooper S. If all S's will now have this revised supercharger (which I can only presume is the same one that comes with the current JCW Kit)and there are going to be some revisions to the stock exhaust, what will a JCW Kit have to offer the 2005 MCS owner? And at what price?

Will the JCW Kit have to be reduced in scope and cost as a result? Or will additional horsepower be extracted via a revised (supercharger-less) package and some new feature –like a header—added?

C'Mon MINIUSA we're waiting for the details !

I sincerly hope that the JCW package increases and evolves as the MINI does. I prey to see 250hp MINIs by the time the next gen engine comes out. I think when the MINI has reached the point of being a 300hp attainable car it will have serious potential in every arena.

300hp in a front driver? Not gonna work. Take a look at the new Maxima 265hp and u need 3 hands on the wheel to fight the torque steer. 300hp AWD–now that would be a rally racer–but sadly I don't see it ever happening. If it does, even less a chance u will see it in the US.

I'm just glad to see them continually improving the car. With the new 170hp MCS, that Mini R50/R56 engine spec sheet makes a lot more sense.

Consider this – the new M1/M2 (whatever they eventually call it) will have around 300hp from an inline six. There's no way BMW will let the MINI reach that territory and compete with that car. That being said I wouldn't be surprised to see something like a 250hp JCW kit for the next generation R56 in a few years.

It seems to me also that the '05 Supercharger is the same “upgrade” unit used in the current MCS JCW Kit.

My question is…is the pulley's reduction ratio the same as now or has it been reduced on the '05 Stock MCS?

It seems to me that BMW has done a lot of work to achieve those extra 7 ponies….new supercharger, intake, exhaust,ECU mapping etc.

So the pulley alone is not everything, eh?

MINIs DONT torque steer. Equal length drive shafts. Check the mini.usa website and look at the features . . there is a whole section on that feature of the MINI.

When I said 300HP Atainable I meant a car that stock would have mid200s So that with some Mods its not hard to get the 300hp out of it.

Any FWD car will torque steer with enough power at the wheels. Just take a look at the ProMini 265hp test cars, its an issue that they have been deallin with. An LSD would be very important with that kind of power too or you would just make smoke.

I don't understand this, seems that 2003 cooper S have 163 hp, then 2005 cooper S 170hp? Is the price you pay extra 500 dollar increase on sale of a mini?

Check into a phantom grip it is a tested and proven way to have an lsd for under 400 bucks
