Here's post on MINI2 to keep an eye on if you're planning on installing 4 spotlights on the front of your MINI: 4 Spotlights Invalidates Portions of Warranty. We can't verify this but it does follow a recent trend of denial of some specific warranty work due to aftermarket parts.

This part does not make sense…

” If you put after market spots on they will insist that you prove that you purchased the spots before April 2004 before they carry out the warranty work SO BE WARNED !

DONT WORRY this only applies to new cars orderd after april this year (2004) or as an addition to your own car, they will still carry out the warranty work on older cars with 4 spots allready on.”

If it's an issue, it's an issue, regardless of when you put them on. Also, “1. They put out too much light on main beam and exceed the reccomended light output for EU and US vehicles.”, what does that have to do with damage to your MINI. I think it's a matter of a crossed message. Not to mention there's no listing of what work will not be done if you have 4 extra lights…

I think the damage might have more to do with how much current is flowing through the circuit. I'm sure that there's plenty o' relays in the system, but four spots is sure a lot of draw on stock wiring and switches.

Sorry to hear this . I too was looking at the Alta light bar. . . Does 4 lights mean 4 lights on the top of the bumper only or does this mean they dont condone lights on the bottom of the bumper either??

darn! does that mean that i am in trouble? i have 4 OEM driving lights installed. I also installed them myself.

This is so irritating. Mine are OEM and dealer installed (in June of '03), so I doubt I have any problems. But why does MINI insist on trying to irritate its core of owners? According to adverts, these cars are supposed to be all about individualism. How come MINI seems to want us all to drive boring bone-stock rides!?

i agree with you max, the four spots date way abck to the 50's when the mini won the monte carlow race, although i do think that the factory driving lamps look great, i think that the driver should be able to choose their own prefs. ive got an 04' jcw mcs with the factory lamps, and i love them, i use them alot when somebody has really bright rear fog lamps haha

Yep, I see it. They recently came down on me for having installed aftermarket lights. Just 2.
It is an electrical issue and I suppose 4 is a suffocation issue.

Claim from MINI National Advisor was… It was Aftermarket… Aftermarket = Warranty void.

It's a tough fight, fighting these MINIUSA rats.

We also have 4 OEM rally lights. We had 2 installed when we received the car, and added the other 2 ourselfs.

They might just be looking for a way to weasel out of the stumbling issue… why not blame it on the rally lights…

Crush you may be interested to know that the stumbling issue was fixed last year: https://www.motoringfile.com/2003/11/30/CDUpdateVersion36AtTheDealersNow
