MINI FINI Sport Link Installation Instructions

For those who have purchased or are looking into the purchase of the MINI FINI Sport Link system and have been searching for install instructions – look no further! We've got the official PDFs for both the base system and the bike holder. You can find them in the How To section of Motoringfile under “Exterior Mods”.

FYI – we've also changed the look of the “How To” page. Check it out when you have a chance. It's a bit of a preview of what's to come…

You have to love a company like MINI FINI that makes products so nice that MINI feels they can add it to their own catalog. They work with the design of the car, not against it like so many other aftermarket companies.

Nice work MINI FINI!

After reviewing the install PDF's I can see why it is taking so long for them to release the Link system. It looks like BMW Engineering got heavily involved in the design. It makes one wonder what the real relationship between MINIfini and MINI USA is. Are they actually a subsidiary? It seems that in the US, the only place you can get their products is through the MINI dealers, and they have BMW part numbers.

All that aside, I don't think you will see that many units sold until more of the attachments come out. I for one, will not buy the Sport Link until the Tow Link trailer hitch attachment comes out. Not to sound paranoid, but until you can order both units together, there's no guarantee that they will produce the other units. And if they don't, then you're stuck with a REALLY EXPENSIVE bike carrier. I just hope they speed the process up a bit. I plan on running R compound tires in autocross next season and wanted the Tow Link to be able to pull a small tire & jack trailer.

FYI – MINI-FINI is a completely seperate company from MINIUSA. They had to create all these products from their own designs and with their own RD.

My understanding is that the hold up is dealing with BMW corporate in getting these items approved for sale through the dealers. Ask any aftermarket company and they will tell you this is no small feat.

I think they've done an admirable job in creating great, high quality products. The fact that they were also able to agree to have MINI sell them through US dealers is just icing on the cake.

I did. Well, I had the dealer do it. It took them about 6 hrs to complete, so it apparently wasn't a trivial thing for them. Works great, though. Very, very sturdy.

Only issue I have so far is of the rubber washers not sticking very well to the pivot arm. They're already damaged. Am trying to get them replaced.

I know this is an old thread but if anyone is interested in the Sport Link, it's great. I got it new when I picked up my car, it was the first one the dealer installed. It took them 5 hours but everybody at the dealership thought it was really cool. Designed very well (MINI-FINI did a great job, looks like a “true” factory add-on). Just my input for info…Bob

I just installed a Sport Link on a friends Cooper S. Not sure why in the other threads it’s taking the dealers 5-6 hours to install. I did it in about 2.5 hours. The instructions in the .pdf are great. I didn’t comlpetely remove the exhaust or heat shield, just lowered them enough to get to the frame rails. Mini-Fini has a well designed product. As one other poster said, it truly looks like it came installed from the factory.

I’m looking for a MiniFini TowLink. The kind folks at MiniFini are backordered 2 months on this item and I’d like to get one for my new trailer (www.rackandroll.com) in the next couple of weeks.

I’d consider a used one if anyone wishes to part with theirs.

I just ordered a 2006 MCS and also have the tow link on the way. I actually ordered two and will be selling the extra one. If anyone is interested please let me know. I will probably put it on ebay if I don’t sell it quickly. Make me an offer.

I’d been trying to get the Mini-Fini sport link, and tow link. The phone was disconnected, and the website down. finally was able to send an email to a Deborah Williams there. I believe she’s in sales. she tells me that “Mini-Fini is no longer in business due to the health of the owner.” She also said that they were informed this week that everything is being shut down as of this week.

Thought I’d let Mini Owners know who have been wanting the Sport link, and tow link. The search for a hitch continues.

I was able to get a Towlink from OutMotoring.com. Yesterday, I had the Sportlink mounted and the unit works great!

There was a delay in delivery of the unit, but the folks at out motoring tell me that the rights to manufacture the design have changed hands and production will resume.

Time to bump this thread.

If there is anyone out there that actually HAS a TowLink and can make detailed measurements & drawings, I (and I’m sure others) would be MOST grateful.

Hello,

I just bought an 03 mini and need a bike rack. I am thinking of the sports link and the bike attachment, and eventually the ski attachment.

I would prefer to buy them used. Please let me know if you are selling the items.

Thanks.
