Here's an interesting bit of info that just came into the MotoringFile inbox:
I recently discovered that Mini Cooper transformers (of Men of Metal compaign) will be manufactured by a company in Japan. I encoutered this information through import video games shop National Console Support, who is taking preorders now for November delivery.

I am not affiliated with NCS. I'm a happy customer for five years and a MCS owner for 1/2 years. I thought Mini community might find this more interesting than the video game community will.

On the site there's even more details:
Takara has started preorders for the Binaltech BT-09 toy which will feature the Mini Cooper. Pricing for the BT-09 is set at Y4980 in Japan and NCS expect to list at US$53.

…cool. That toy will make an excellent addition to my collection. By the way Gabe, will they be in limited production, sold at MINI Dealerships;or both. Thanks.

I asked for this not to long ago.

https://www.motoringfile.com/2004/07/13/miniusaaddsrobot_configurator

Glad to see MINIUSA be responsive. :)

very nice. i have configured online enough times, should be easy to pick the right color. wonder if the toys will be available in more than 1 or 2 colors.

also curious if this will be a licensed product. with past experience collecting japenese toys i have seen it both ways.

It would be v. nice if we could configure the toys like we can configure the cars. 😉

Takara
Japanese toy distributors originally listed the Binaltech BT-11 as a transformable Mini-Cooper… but then attorneys for BMW/Mini contacted us and informed that no such deal had been struck with Takara and Mini would possibly be producing their own line of toys. Instead of Mini-Cooper, Binaltech BT-11 now features the Decepticon known as Ravage who mutters lines such as “Today’s Autobots are tomorrow’s scrap metal.” In the cartoon series, Ravage shifts from bot to stealthy feline but in its Binaltech turn, Ravage changes to a sleek, black Corvette.

Note that you can now buy the BMW approved version of this toy at MiniUSA.com

Just got my Cooper/Transformers from the MINIUSA website. Got it for $20 each plus FedEx shipping. I have 2 of the 3 (racing flag and the British flag). I didn’t buy the American one…yet.
