In these photos we finally see the anthracite headliner, Purple Haze, new grab handles, and the new side sun-shade (among other things).

Sooooooooooo Glad I ordered Anthracite Headliner on my 2005 DS/B… Thanks for the awesome pics!

Speck Jul 30th, 2004 Link

Are these british pics? I've been under the impression that the US 2005's won't be getting the grab bar or side sun shade. Do we know if these are items that can be retrofitted?

ReplyReply
Gabe Jul 30th, 2004 Link

These are US spec cars.

ReplyReply
Speck Jul 30th, 2004 Link

I guess I can answer part of that myself. Right side steering wheel. Now I wonder about retro fit.

Gabe, that is the most groovy, ginchy, farout, bitchin gallery. If I hadn't already finished my website and was totally un-creative I'd steal the whole freak'n design, just kidding but it is very KOOL.

Color…what were they thinking with two so , albeit nice, colors?…RB…now LA LA Bobbi

No offence intended to those who felt the phasing out of the anthracite headliner was a big deal but… ummmm… what really is the big deal?

It looks like a normal (if slightly dark) headliner to me. Am I missing something?

ReplyReply
Luke Jul 30th, 2004 Link

The “normal” headliner on the mini's is very light grey. The anthracite headliner is a big deal because a lot of people prefer a dark headliner.

ReplyReply
minivt Jul 30th, 2004 Link

Humourless, my reaction may have seemed a little over-stated earlier… I was just abit relieved after ordering the Anthracite… site un-seen… several months ago. However, I feel that from a pure design standpoint the darker headliner helps to coordinate with the optional anthracite and black leather interior. I mean some contrast is good… but too much can be a bad, bad thing. Either way looks good… I am just happy to have gone with the anthracite headliner.

ReplyReply
BitRot Jul 30th, 2004 Link

And WHY is MINIusa ditching the anthracite headliner? It looks worlds better than the light grey!

Come on, no bs about “cost issues”, what's the real story here? (my money is on re-relocation of the clock to the headliner being to blame)

ReplyReply
Ruben Jul 30th, 2004 Link

Personally, I think the anthracite makes it a little duller. A regular car has dark headliners. To me the light grey ceiling and headliners make the interior look more open and clear.

grg Jul 30th, 2004 Link

Is the blue car in the backround (in the pics) indi blue??

GRG

ReplyReply
Benjamin Jul 30th, 2004 Link

Are they doing something about the moonroof mesh? Can we get something that actually blocks sunlight?

ReplyReply
TK Jul 30th, 2004 Link

The blue car in the background is indi blue. Purple looks very different in person then it does in pictures.

The mesh shade actuall blocks more sunlight then you would think. I'd say about 50%.

COOPR SS Jul 30th, 2004 Link

Are we sure that other car isn't Hyper Blue????

ReplyReply
TK Jul 30th, 2004 Link

I could see cost as being the reason to drop anthracite. MINI doesn't want to pay to have the map lights, visors, a, b, and c pillars etc… made in black, for a no cost option.

ReplyReply
Eric R Jul 30th, 2004 Link

The other car is a pre '05 (see grill surround and headlights) so it must be an Indi Blue. Great comparison shot – I like the anthracite headliner!!

ReplyReply
TK Jul 30th, 2004 Link

Positive the other car is Indi blue! I took the picture!

is hyper blue available on MC or is it just a mcs option… thanks in advance

GRG

ReplyReply
BitRot Jul 30th, 2004 Link

TK, it's not a cost issue. If it was they'd make it a cost option like it is everwhere except the USA.

The US is the only place that's loosing the option of an anthracite headliner so it's not like they've stopped making them. Let us have the choice of paying $200 for it just like everyone else.

Kevin Jul 30th, 2004 Link

Help!
I have ordered my purple haze/white cooper, and I am starting to doubt my decision to go with PH.
Just for my own piece of mind.. Hyper Blue is available 1/05, and the HB interior is not available in the MC. Correct?
Hey, what's your opinion of Purple Haze??

Kevin, patiently (yeah right!) awaiting my production number….

ReplyReply
Robert Jul 30th, 2004 Link

Well I ordered the Hyper blue with the anthracite headliner…I think I made a great choice. Anyone have a pic of the Hyper Blue yet? MY Mini S is scheduled for production so looks like Hyper Blue will be available before 1/05. I was going to go with PH but felt it was a tad too purple for me.

Kevin Jul 30th, 2004 Link

Hey, i am away from my MINI for the next couple months and after looking at these pics, i don't remember that box in the rear headliner near the rear sunroof.

Can anyone tell me/remind me what that is?

Thanks!

ReplyReply
Charlie Jul 30th, 2004 Link

The box holds the sensor for the MINI alarm, which is a dealer-installed accessory. Everything is pre-wired from 04 models on; so you can just pop the cover and install the motion detector in this spot if you purchase the alarm and want to install it yourself

ReplyReply
Gabe Jul 31st, 2004 Link

Okay lets see if I can answer some of these questions.

Does the 2005 MINI have LEd tail-lights? No (more info]

Pics of Hyper Blue? Yes we've posted several. Here are two: 1 / 2

Will Hyper Blue be available on the Cooper after 1/05. In the US yes it will according to this. Not 100% about the interior though.

Kevin Jul 31st, 2004 Link

Cool, thanks charlie…i didn't get the alarm, probably why i didn't recognize that box.

ReplyReply
James Jul 31st, 2004 Link

What a shame….this is the first I've seen of the Anthracite Headliner. It's such a classy compliment to the anthracite dash option that I really can't believe they're cancelling it!

Has there been talk of maybe bringing it back in '06?

So if I had gotten the alarm system I would have had that ugly box? Strange. What, they ran out of room under the hood or is this some kinda trick motion detector thingy?

Anyone have pics of the 05 MCS with the exterior chrome package? I don't like the chrome strips on the Coopers, but I don't know if the MCS would look the same. It doesn't look like the front bumper would be the same, but wanted to see if anyone could verify that visually. I should be getting a prod date any day now, so I am short on time if I want to add that option. Thanks!!

I love the Anthracite headliner. Can't we see about asking MINI to have the headliner as a cost option? I am willing to pay for it as it looks stunning! Gabe–is that possible? What do others think?

Not to sound to harsh… or to push the anthracite issue too far. But for all those that think MINI is the only one with a light grey colored headliner… think again. I tested about 20 different vehicles ranging in price, manufacturer, and type before ending up with my first choice of the MCS… had to be sure about things. I would have to say of those I have seen recently, a lot of other car companies have started going with the light grey. I am sticking to my original thoughts… I am really glad I was able to get the option. Only wish I didn't have to settle for the three spoke wheel :(… oh well it is still a MINI and it is still going to tons of fun to drive.

I thought that the 2005s were supposed to have armrests standard. None of the new 2005 pictures show the Mini Armrest. When will it become available and will it be standard or extra charge item?

Thanks in advance :)

one more stupid question. anyone know if the colored interior door pannel is just for metallics or if a white MINI would get a white interior as well?

ReplyReply

Pepper I agree..the chrome pakg looks great…does anyone know if you can add it as a dealer installed option and at what cost? Heard from my MA today that my Mini will be completed 08/02..mannnnn so excited

ReplyReply

An optional armrest will be available on the premium pack or as a stand alone option (along with auto headlights) starting with 1/05 build dates.

Gabe – thanks for the armrest info. Did you install one in your car and if you did which one?

ReplyReply

You can add all of the accessories in the chrome package at the dealership (or at home) out of the current accessory catalog. The only exception is the chrome strip on the hatch. I don't know how difficult it would be to replace that.

Mini USA PLEASE give us the Anthracite Headliner back! I don't care if it's a cost option like the rest of the Planet.

It's bad enough to not get the leather/cloth and cloth options the rest of the World gets, but to tease us with the Anthracite Headliner and then take it away is plain cruel!
