Italian Job Stunt Track to Open Next Year

From the Kings Island website:

Another Hollywood big-screen spectacular comes to life at Paramount’s Kings Island with the addition of THE ITALIAN JOB: Stunt Trackâ„¢, a new multi-million dollar fast-track coaster experience for 2005. Based on the high-action finale of Paramount Pictures’ The Italian Job (2003) starring Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Edward Norton, Seth Green, Mos Def, and Donald Sutherland, this new wild ride takes families on a high-speed stunt car adventure through movie sets and scenes inspired by the film’s climatic chase sequence.

Park guests will experience what it’s like to be a Hollywood stunt driver and go behind the scenes of an action movie. Guests board their very own MINI Cooper S tricked out with audio special effects adding to the multi-sensory sensation of the experience. Once strapped into their custom stunt car, rubber meets the road as the MINIs peel out to begin their chase sequence. Drivers twist through a parking garage, dodge near-collisions, race down stairs, chase through tunnels and narrowly escape massive explosions triggered by gunfire from a menacing helicopter. Tires skid out one last time as the stunt cars crash through a billboard and splash down into an L.A. aqueduct concluding the chase sequence and their trial as a stunt driver in this screen test!

You can see lots more at the official site here and check out some photos of what it should look like [ 1 / 2 ]

Update: We've also managed to find a promotional video about the ride: [video]

I hate roller coasters, but I could almost be persuaded to try that. Especially if I could sit next to Charlize Theron..

    Road Trip?

  • Bart

Looks like a normal drive to work in the morning ;)

After reading about this earlier this morning, It made me think of other film based rides and how long it has taken for them to be brought into reality…and this is what… a bit over a year old?
    Awesome.

From the animations, and the repetative siren scenes… I'll venture to guess this is much like the SUPERMAN ride at Magic Mtn and the NASCAR SPEED ride in vegas…. but a with a bit more track and turns.

Looks fun and may even cause me and some of TMMZ to roadtrip out for a ride!

I will have that Mini Crossing sign, oh yes, It will be mine.

  • CruzinChris

Looks like they made the Indi Blue MINI an “S” for the ride (it wans't in the movie), and what's with the Blue one being up front?

Looks cool! I'd finally go to that park for this ride!

  • pete

they also made the white an s. where is the park located again?

  • http://users.adelphia.net/~rocketboy/index.html Rocketboy

Humm… Looks like a road trip might be in order next year…

And in an ultimate bit of irony, there was a little story that took place at Kings Park in Snopes today..

    http://www.snopes.com/risque/caught/booth.asp

(And is it me, or does it look like they use some sort of fancy Sims expansion pack to make pics?)

Actually, the only Mini Cooper S model in the film was Charlize Theron's. The Pepper White Mini (driven by Jason Stratham), and the Indi Blue Mini (driven by Mark Wahlberg), were both Mini Coopers. They were all heavily modded out, yes, but no hood scoops on the blue and white cars. So the illustrations of this ride are already inaccurate…

Timed for release just as Convertible is making its debut! love those MINI Convertible rollercoaster cars! Hoops and all!

What a great idea. Remember when the Mini first came out and many of the comments were “it drives like its on rails”? What a more fitting way to simulate the Mini's performance than a rollercoaster. I think they may have been able to do it one better if they would done something like the Spiderman attraction at Universal Studios Islands of Adventure. It's a super-dark ride, that operates on a fiber optic technology in the floor. So, they could have put you in individual vehicles and had it race through a “city”, turn you on two wheels, and actually burn rubber. This would have surely cost much more, but it would have been much better. Roller coasters are great, and I love them, but I like my idea better. That said, I'm sure this will be fun and I can't wait to ride.

Kings Island is located just north of Cincinnati, Ohio – home of the longest, largest, and biggest wooden rollercoaster in the world – The Beast. Great park.

  • Red Rage

Oh sure, it looks fun, but what kind of taillights do these Minis have? ;-)

King's Island sent me this -

” When we introduced the ride experience yesterday, we revealed a large preview center just inside the front gate. The preview really looks like a movie set, and it includes renderings and key art. A Mini Coopers is parkedon either side to help tie it all together. We've noticed that many of ourguests are having their pictures taken with the cars as they enter the park. How fun!”

    How Fun Indeed!

    I think there's a TMMZ Caravan scheduled for 2005!

Our MINI club is tossing the idea around about organizing a group ride out there when this opens. Perhaps we can plan something HUGE, and get in free for the publicity the park would get by having all these MINIs show up…(contributed from one of our group mbers)

  • http://www.teammightyminiz.com Doug

Contact me, I've already got open relations with the fine folks at King Island and Paramount!

  • http://users.adelphia.net/~rocketboy/index.html Rocketboy

Ya, maybe we can get a group of clubs showing up on the same date. MINIUSA, are you looking at this thread and idea?? :)
