Another MCS Cabrio First Drive Report

<

p>Our friend over at GBMINI.net, Ian Cull, has posted his thoughts on the MINI Cooper S Convertible (MCSc) after a blast through the northeastern US countryside. Here's an excerpt:

“I would say if you have a high mileage '02 or '03, you should test drive an '05 – they are so much better! And if you are considering a JCW upgrade of an '02 or '03, you should definitely consider an '05 upgrade instead. I remember Martin (MINI Peabody Manager) saying to me back in January when I put the JCW kit in GBMINI, that maybe I should wait and get an '05 – now I know why he said that!”

I am seriously considering moving from an '03 to an '05 when the limited-slip becomes available.

I'm thinking it would be a worthwhile upgrade.

what is going on with all of this smut? I am apalled. Please stop for all of Mini fans.

Ian is correct, people must drive the '05 — i now have one– i test drove 3 different '04 MCS's — Big Difference.

    BMW did a fantastic job.

Bob – yeah it's obviously pretty disgusting. We've notified the ISP provider of the IP address that it's coming from so there should be some action on it soon. I can't believe this person doesn't realize we can find out who they are.

Anyway we have an automated process that deleted most of it as soon as it's posted.

Looks like it happened again 4x I was wondering what you were talking about until I scrolled down and saw this filth Absolutely horriable Are you able to block the IP address too? Or is that a last resort?

  • http://www.matthewgifford.com/ Matt

The IP is blocked now. It looks like the spammer was using anonymization.net to mask his IP, so it's unlikely that we'll find out who did this. At least we won't be getting visitors from that site anymore.

The more I see Cool Blue, the more I like it. And since I already thought that orange was a sad omission in the color lineup, I'm sad (and/or jealous) that the only way I could get either of what (to me) are the two coolest colors would be to get the convertible, which I've sort of decided against. I'd still rather spend that extra $4500 on the JCW upgrade. (vrooom!)

Cool blue is another one of those colors that really looks different in direct sunlight. The car I had looked almost pruple in the afternoon sun but turned grey/blue by the evening.

I love the car and the review.. but those rims don't do it for me. They're not sporty enough for a Cooper S IMHO.
Guess I'm too used to my S-Lites.

  • http://www.motoringfile.com/ Gabe

Actually those are the MCc wheels on the rest of the world. Not sure why MINIUSA made them the standard wheels on the MCSc. They're not bad but they're not what I'd call “sporty”.

    Gabe,

Sorry to hear that there has been more of that low class stuff going on.

My wife and I just went to Assael, here in LA area, and she drove a '05 MSC. What a difference in performance and build quality! She is edging towards the Yel/wht but I told her wait and see some of the other colors. They had 4 cars plus a MCc. So it's now down to the MCS, A4 or the new 320i. I'm trying to talk her into the TT, since we already have an MCS.

I have been trying to get my mother to go test-drive a MCc or MCSc. Right now she has a sebring convertiable, and that drives like an unmenuveriable boat, so this would be a welcome change. If she hasent driven one by the next time I see her, I am dragging her own there to drive one. But that is a great review. I agree with the comment about the rims, the V-Stars would look alot better IMHO. I hope my 05 MC is geared as well as the MCSc has been discribed. PS Great site you have here Gabe.
