We just recieved this in the MotoringFile inbox from a dealer in the UK:
I have some info about the new JCW kits. We are just recieving ours now, but only a limited number of kits have been released to dealers and they all had to be ordered especially for customers!!! There were a few problems with new software to update the chips, but by the time you start to recieve yours it will all be fixed!!!
You are correct, the new kit does take the BHP up to 210 as oppose to 200 in the current kits!!!

<p>As far as we know the new kits can only be fitted on 2003 and 2004 cars. 210hp!! Cant wait to drive one!</p>

There is a “new” JCW Kit for the 2005 model year Mini Cooper S that can only be installed on an 05 MCS. It cannot be installed on an 04 or 03. In the same vein, the current JCW Kit, manufactured for 03 & 04 MCS does not work on an 05. Dealers with these still in stock are discounting the current Kits to “clear their shelves.”</p>
<p>JCW, not to leave the 04 & 03 Kit owners left out, are supposed to be creating an “upgrade kit” to be retrofitted to existing installed Kits to boost the HP level up to that of the 05, but the details as to what this upgrade will cost or what it contains is still up in the air. </p>
<p>Earlier reports on Motoringfile said the kit would sell for around $500, plus the cost of dealer labor to install.</p>

<p>Tim they are supposedly working on some type of upgrade available to other JCW kit owners. Anybody who has an 03-04 MCs who wants a kit now is the time to buy. For those of you with an 05, or with one on order you just have to wait a little bit longer.</p>
<p>According to a guy behind the parts counter at a MINI dealership, the older JCW kits are selling pretty much at cost now, to move 'em out. Another dealership is selling them installed for $4500, which is the list price for just parts.</p>

<p>Correct me if I am wrong but Horsepower and Torque are related, so what are the RPMs at 210 horsepower… I would imagine that the torque would be lower here, but still should be improved over the stock torque…</p>

<p>Sounds like MINI will not keep extra parts stocked for older JCW kits. That doesn't sound right to me. If you buy the JCW and break something down the road, MINI may not be able to replace it. What will you do? May be better to just get aftermarket performance parts from the start rather than wait for your JCW parts to go obsolete and you'll end up replacing it with aftermarket parts in the end anyway.</p>

I am certain MINI will have parts to service JCW equipped cars – well over 5000 have been sold worldwide!
Also, many of the '05 JCW parts are likely to be the same as the older kit.</p>

<p>I've been under the impression that a MINI with JCW doesn't drastically affect the 0-60 speeds, but rather provides more power and kick in the 3rd through 6th gears. Is this correct? I'm just curious how much of a difference the extra 40HP makes all around or if it truly the higher gears where it is most noticeable. Anyone?</p>

<p>David – I can't imagine MINI won't have the older kits in stock for years to come. You can buy older BMW parts for instance that date back to the 70s. However if you're looking for an excuse to get the JCW kit read this month's GoMini Magazine.</p>

<p>With an optimized Works-Tuning-Kit Mini raises the performance of the Cooper S. The 210-HP Option Package celebrates its premiere at the Paris Auto Salon.</p>
<p>To make the Mini Cooper S even livelier, Mini house tuner John Cooper Works has again revised its Tuning-Kit. A compressor with higher RPM and air pressure, intake valves with higher throughput, a modified cylinder head, a redeveloped air cleaner housing,a modified ECU, and a special exhaust system should now coax 210 HP and a maximum torque of 245 Nm [180.7 lbf by my calculator] from the 1.6-Liter engine.</p>
<p>The handling of the Brit also wins. The Mini should storm from zero to 100 km/h in only 6.6 seconds, with a top speed of 230 km/h for the Tuning-Variant. As for fuel economy, the Mini is calculated to consume 8.6 Liters per 100 Kilometers.</p>
<p>The new Tuning-Kit will be available in Germany from the end of September and should cost around €4400. Naturally the full factory warranty remains in effect after installation.</p>
<p>Even more Works-Accessories</p>
<p>Also available from John Cooper Works are a lower suspension that drops the Mini 10 millimeters, a [Cathedral?] brace for the motor compartment, 18-inch alloy wheels, sport seats, and additional modifications such as an air intake and carbon-fiber interior trim.</p>
<p>A sound kit for the Cooper is in development, consisting of an air filter, a sport exhaust and a revised ECU, that adds another three HP. Likewise, at the end of the year Cooper Works will offer sport brakes, characterized by larger brake disks on the front axle with red painted calipers.</p>
<p>TRANSLATOR'S NOTE:</p>
<p>It's been ten years since I lived in Germany and read car magazines over there, so a few terms were beyond both my memory and my dictionary. Going backwards through the text, the second (Domstrebe) I can take from context as probably a lateral brace in the engine compartment — it literally translates as “cathedral brace.” The first, however, might be the source of some confusion as to whether the new JCW comes with new injectors. The German word is “Einspritzventile.” Break that in two and you get “injection valves” — I take this to mean INTAKE valves (for air), not new INJECTORS (for fuel) but I could be wrong. Intake valves with higher throughput would be much more likely to produce more power at higher RPM, and would be much more effective (IME, at least) than fuel injectors with higher throughput. As somebody commented elsewhere here, the engine already runs rich as it is.</p>
