Automobile Magazine has a feature in this month's edition where it ranks the top 100 cool cars of all time. As expected both the classic and new Mini made the list. The new MINI came in at #85 while the classic edged out it's younger sibling at #67. The 1963-67 Corvette Stingray came out on top followed closely by the Porsche 911.
Automobile doesn't have the story online but you can find the magazine at most major bookstores in the US.

dude, i def dont believe that the stingray shoudl be #1. i bet the writer of that article probably owns one. : )

The Stingray should be in the Top 20, certainly, but #1?

Evo magazine did a Top 100 sexiest cars (numbers one and two were the Lambo Miura and the Jag E-Type); their list made a lot more sense to me than Automobile's.

Humourless – totally agree. Actually I was wondering if that's where Car got the idea :)

…if Automobile Magazine were going to put the Stingray at number one,I hope it was the ragtop verison…

…speaking of magazines,Gabe, what do you think of the U.K. magazine,New MINI?

All I know about that UK-based MINI magazine is that it's frickin' expensive. Like $10 an issue at my local newsstand here in Los Angeles.

And yeah, I definitely wouldn't put the Stingray as #1? But cool is rather subjective. I'd certainly place something like the Porsche 356 or Speedster above the Stingray in cool points. Or how about the Ferrari from Ferris Bueler. But to a muscle car fan, perhaps the Stingray is the pinnacle of style.

“”The 1963-67 Corvette Stingray came out on top followed closely by the Porsche 911.””

1 should be the …………..

1966 Shelby Cobra 427

the Stingrays are definitely cool, but no not #1….
I would rank the Jag XKE a bit higher.. and probably the Shelby Cobra, and the Aston Martin DB5…

What was the criteria that was used in ranking the top 100 cars? I will get the mag in the next few days, but curious for now if anyone knows.

” would rank the Jag XKE a bit higher.. and probably the Shelby Cobra, and the Aston Martin DB5…””

Good choices!!!!

Even Mr. Enzo Ferrari himself thought the Mini was the coolest car on the road!

If only Mr. Montezumela realized that maybe he wouldn't have made that low down lousy comment about giving BMW a Panda when they won the manufacturer's championship in F1 – that upon taking possession of a new MINI from them with a Ferrari prancing horse logo on the roof as a gift to the F1 team after this year's victory.

I would put the 1955 M-Benz 300SL Gullwing at the top of my list with the XKe Jag and the A-M DB 5 – 6 right after it… the Vet might just sneak in ti the top 10 bu I would more likly put in at about 20… interesting game though… I doubt any 2 enthusiasts would have same top 100 and as to having them in the same order… well no chance… and what is 'cool' anyway? a very amorphous term

MINIs are cool, huh? Gee, thatmust make all of us cool, too! LOL

Lighten up folks, its subjective. Make your own list.

BTW, one of the Automobile writers, Jamie Kitman, bought an MCS after driving a Cooper. They are also currently putting an S on a 4-seasons trial.
