Since we posted about the new 2005 JCW US catalog several people have asked about the availability of the JCW strut brace. While, for some reason it wasn’t mentioned in the catalog, it was available outside the US as an approved JCW accessory. After some official confirmation we can now say with confidence that the JCW strut brace should be available by late March in the US. No prices have been announced yet.
Sorry to say, I don’t think so. The http://www.johncooper.co.uk website (JCW’s official site) states:
“Available for the MINI Cooper S and MINI Cooper S Cabrio only”

ReplyGod, i hope it is not super expensive… or am i dreaming?! allan
ReplyI hope it IS super expensive, so I can not buy it like I’ve not bought all other JCW bits for the same reason.
ReplyIt may end up “super expensive” FOR A STRUT BRACE, but for those people with a standard MCS, looking for a suspension upgrade yet 100% keeping their warranty, it could turn out to be just the ticket.
I think they may sell quite a few of them – it’ll likely be the first upgrade for many people after they’ve had their MCS for a while… mainly because it will be the cheapest JCW upgrade.

ReplyAsk most tuners. MINI strut braces are unnecessary in the front. Pretty, but unnecessary. And I doubt a strut brace would void a warranty.
ReplyEvery bit of chassis stiffening helps. It has to produce a benefit, just by that mark alone (stiffer is better). Whether the supposedly small benefit (in a MINI) is worth the $ is the real question.
As for warranty, if you installed an aftermarket strut brace, and then one of your shocks fails, it wouldn’t be a totally outrageous stretch for MINI to blame the brace. Silly? yes. Unlikely – sure, they probably wouldn’t give you grief over it. But it could possibly happen.

ReplyI’m told that measured deflection of the strut towers under cornering load is less than .5mm. The resulting camber change is negligible. Spend your cash if you must, but don’t say it’s a necessary mod.
ReplyIf JCW put out a rear strut brace I might be interested. A front brace is not necessary on your MCS… this item adds bling value only. As long as you go in knowing that, there is nothing wrong with buying one of these in my opinion.
ReplyI had a response from MINI USA updating status for the strut brace in US as saying:
“Thanks for writing MINI. I appreciate your interest in our John Cooper Works kits. The part you are referring to is the strut tower brace, and it is not yet available in the United States market. Please stay in touch with your MINI dealer and through our http://www.miniusa.com site for updates.
If there are further questions I can assist with, please feel free to drop me an e-mail. I am happy to lend a hand.
