Since it seems like illuminated door sills are now all the rage (thanks Sean) it’s probably a good time for a retrofit guide. Here are the official installation instructions from MINI for the illuminated door sills. Enjoy:

Please keep in mind this PDF should not be used as the “official” installation instructions (only as reference), and before installation one may want to get a copy from a MINI dealer as they are constanstly updated. Granted most MINI dealers won’t give out instructions like this and would rather see you just have it installed at the shop but it’s worth mentioning.

This is a good tool, but the adjustment of the sill itself will be hard so they line up straight and look factory , plus if you have a areo kit, That would be hard. Drilling is required!Ouch!, Then sealing it so open metal will not rust, but it does not mention that other then the groment, which does not work because I find it to be worthless , that where they rust and if you do it does it void the warrenty issuse?? -alpinamike

I seriously considered those door sills… but I ended up opting for the cheaper JCW sills anyway. If they ever release an illuminated version of the JCW sill, I may switch.

Then again, once I actually see the illuminated MCS sills first hand, I could have a change of heart!

Doug, Sean mentioned the price in a comment he made in his LSD review. They are also now on the miniusa site. But you are right to be afraid. $335 for the ones shown.

Hi, i’m fab from Italy, first of all excuse 4 my english. :) your site is really vary good. I’m waiting for a new MCS italian version in the next 15 days. my question is if yuo’re know illuminated door sills are standard on MY05! My MCS will be Dark Silver, roof and mirror white, Chlii Pack(xeno,leder,aut.clima,wheel 17″), sport steering with cruise control, Cockpit Chrono Pack, dark rear glass, rain and light sensor. I loved USA version, so i ordered a kit of side marker, and for the last, on my roof there be US Flag! Bye from Italy Fab
