Official Chrome Line Retrofit Kit

MINI has finally introduced an official retrofit kit for the chrome line interior kit. Here’s all the info:

The chrome Tach-meter and the chrome Speedo/Tach-meter on the steering column (in combination with the chrono pack or the navigation system) are only available as complete units, as the chrome bezels on these items cannot be changed. They are not included in the kit and must be ordered separately.

The entire kit and individual parts should be available now at your local MINI dealer. For part numbers and pricing download the PDF below:

Was this a chrome package for a 7 series BMW? Gosh the prices seem to be inline with that customer base. I guess mossmini and outmotoring get my business.

Cool, I’m off to the dealer to get that done!

Wait…$220 extra for the tachometer?

Never Mind.

The problem is that MINI didn’t design the plastic piece on the tach to be taken off easily. That being said I know of people who have done it and saved a ton of money by just buying the chrome ring.

MINI retrofit? After sales parts? Mini issued accessories? Pricing aside, my one major complaint is that my MINI dealer’s parts department has their head up their A.. and don’t have a clue about what is being offered. The standard answer is either “it don’t fit your year car” or “We never heard of anything like that.” I’ve tried to get 1) chrome mirror covers, 2) wind deflector for my convertible, 3) JCW exhaust, 4) etc. Even trying to upgrade my wheels brings blank stares. So why offer after sales items when the parts department is too stupid to obtain them? (I have a Norther California dealer and this is my second MINI.)

Bud, hope it is not my No Calif dealer, though I have had some blank stares from the person ordering parts/accessories. Simple question, “Can I get the chrome handle for the boot?” I don’t know, never got back to me.

As much as I like chrome, I did not order the interior chrome line package from the factory. I think it is a bit overpriced at $250 for basically a few plastic chromed rings.

There are very nice accessories from MINI, but they charge tooooo much for my liking.

Gabe Feb 24th, 2005 Link

Yeah but it looks soooo good :)

Sean Bartnik Feb 24th, 2005 Link

Frank, It’s $200, not $250 for the Chrome Line Interior from the factory. :-)

And Bud, you need to find a better dealer! MINI sends parts bulletins to all their dealers and those bulletins are likewise available in MINI’s dealer communication system. Not to mention that the part numbers for most things are in the accessory catalog, and other things can generally be looked up on the computer via EPC. If your local dealer is too clueless to keep up with the parts bulletins, take your business to one who’s on the ball. Most dealers are only too happy to do parts business via mail order.

This looks so nice, and it’s great that it’s VERY cheap compared to the aftermarket bits that were available before this OEM one.

Others have ordered a tach ring from minispeed in the UK and it looks great.

Me Feb 24th, 2005 Link

I’ll have to disagree … I don’t think it looks good at all.

Jared/pezboy Feb 24th, 2005 Link

Which dash do you have?

ReplyReply
Jared/pezboy Feb 24th, 2005 Link

Well, I guess it doesn’t matter which you have – but I think it looks great on anthracite. On the others, it probably wouldn’t look that great.

ReplyReply
Gabe Feb 24th, 2005 Link

I think it’s nice with anything but stunning with anthracite.

Not a big fan of chrome..

Aaron Cornaby Feb 24th, 2005 Link

This is totally crazy…we have a chrome line interior kit including tach for under $100…where in the world do they pull these prices from?

ReplyReply
Ian Feb 24th, 2005 Link

Aaron, Not so crazy … your $100 kit apparently does speedo, tacho and vents; MINIs $125 kit does speedo, vents, dimmer & hazard, cupholders and gear shift – quite a good deal. Agreed, the tacho is a crazy price but it is because they are selling you a complete replacement module – it is possible to source a very nice tacho ring just like that in your kit, for a much better price. I don’t see the tacho ring alone listed on your site? I got minefor GBMINI from England

What the hell is a “tach-meter”?

Did those two corporate guys actually put their signatures on a document with so many misspellings of tachometer?

Gotta wonder…

ReplyReply
Bruce Feb 24th, 2005 Link

Opps, looks like “tach-meter” did not show up on my post above.

ReplyReply
Gabe Feb 24th, 2005 Link

I fixed your italic code so the word shows up.

Yes.

I don’t have a problem with tach-meter. But Chrono-pack has me scratching my head – where’s the clock?

John Feb 27th, 2005 Link

Hi, this is my first post here. I thought the chrome could possibly cause glare during sunny days. Not the case?
