Silver Contrast Roof for 2006?

It would appear that the current MINI, R50 and R53, are going out with a bang in their final year of production.

Like the classic Mini in it’s later years, it looks like MINI will soon offer a silver roof option for some colors on the Cooper and Cooper S. It’s unclear exactly when this new option will be available but based on what we’re hearing, it’s a safe bet that it will be one of the handful of additions to the options list for 2006. Whether or not this option has anything to do with the upcoming special options package has yet to be determined.

would that be pure silver, dark silver, or CHROME?

Meg Apr 6th, 2005 Link

Pretty interesting. Don’t know how it would look on all the colors though. Will it only be available with certain body colors?

Miles Apr 6th, 2005 Link

I love it!!! SVC in Newport Beach did a MINI that was BRG with a bunch of goodies. One thing they did was paint the roof silver just like that, it looked awesome.

The last Mini (classic) produced was red with a silver roof. I’ve always thought that would be a good combination for a MINI, too.

Should we assume we’ll have silver bonnet stripes to match?

A silver top would be very cool. Hey Gabe, not to be picky, but don’t you mean “R50 and R53″?

Gabe Apr 6th, 2005 Link

Of course that’s what I meant :)

This could be the tip of the MINI personalization iceberg.

Just imagine if MINI offered the ability to pick bonnet, body, and mirror colors from any of the colors offered for the model year – and/or offered a paint upcharge for your own color selections.

ReplyReply
mini vanilli Apr 6th, 2005 Link

WAIT….imagine MINI letting us customize ANY color we want. just choosing from an infinite color pallet. it would generate a paint number (like a hex code) and the paint would dynamicly mix/spray at the factory each car that is painted. all they would need is red, yellow, black, white and blue paint at the factory and they could make millions of combinations from those colors. the technology would have to be all in the painting system. but it would revolutionize the auto industry.

See this item on eBay for an example of how this might look. Came across this today as I was browsing for MCS stuff:

I’ve been lusting after the idea of a Purple Haze/Silver MCS for awhile now. Looks like 2006 just might be the year for it.

Heh, I have a hard enough time picking a paint color for my bathroom. And I usually end up buying 4 cans of paint because the color I pick never turns out the way I envisioned (Home Depot loves me).

Imagine having your MINI show up with your custom paint job: “What the??? That’s not the color I wanted! It’s way too green/blue/yellow/pink!!!”

Or imagine MINI’s position when the customer says “I’m not paying for that. It looks ghastly! I swear that’s not the color I picked. Your website must be messed up.” (You know it would happen, a lot)

Call me crazy, but I’ll stick with a pre-selected palette, thanks. :) (Though I’d love to see a larger pre-selected palette)

A cool concept though…

Better yet, perhaps some day, far into the future, paints will be able to change their color to fit your mood at the time. Don’t like your blue car any longer? Wipe it down with a chemical activator that brings out the red pigment instead. Change your car’s color with no more effort than a wax job. Now that would be cool.

I’ve been thinking my DS car could look pretty cool with red roof, mirror caps, boot handle and grill inserts. Something a bit darker than CR – chromatically harmonized with DS.

Am I deluded?

I would definitely have ordered a silver top on my Black/White 2005 were it available. Black/Silver would look very cool.

All of the above sound way cool. Just a reminder, folks, just about any fair-sized town should have a good body shop. Mine guesstimated a cost for a light tan top on a dark green MINI at about $400.

Just a thought for a rainy afternoon :)

We’re THIS CLOSE to ordering a new ‘05 in Chili Red/Black, but a silver top option would be SUH-WEET in either Red or BRG. Might have to wait a few months to order. . .

Decisions, decisions. . .

what about a silver roof on a pure silver body? D’oh!!

I always thought they should have offered a white roof on the pure silver. I have an 02 silver MCS monotone with black “cobras” and was thinking of getting the roof custom painted white before I did the stripes. But what would make me really get me —— is some all red leather (or cloth) sport buckets–from the factory.

Nathan Harrington Jun 24th, 2006 Link

I’ve ordered a black mini from Dick Lovett here in the UK and have specified a silver roof.

Unfortunately Mini would not even entertain the idea of painting it for me as its non standard – its incredible that they build a car to order, you wait almost four months and they can’t paint the roof a different colour!

Luckily the dealer is doing it for me, at a cost of £500. Yes this is a lot but then its not as if you’ll see this everyday and the transfers are everywhere these days.

Can’t wait to get it!
