Whenever we head back to europe (Last time we were there was in early 2001), I will definetely schedule time to visit the Oxford plant.

When we went to the UK in 2001, the exchange rate was still very favorable for us and at the time, the Euro was still being introduced in the other countries we visited.

Right now Europe is a very expensive place for Americans to visit and I have heard/read the UK is almost off limits to budget conscious travelers.

Oh well.

My wife and I were in London for a week and half last year and we made a side trip to Oxford for the tour (based in large part on reading this article the first time). It was an excellent tour - we left with a much greater appreciation for our cars (we both have MCSs).

Make sure you bring a lot of $$$$$$. England is really expensive compared to the rest of Europe. I worked for an airline until three days ago and that was the last place people would want to go to even for a short weekend away.

Thanks for the great account of your experience. Reading that makes me want to the UK! A place that was never really on my vacation wish list... until now.

Gabe - Thanks for the re-post. For those who aren't going to England anytime soon, it is nice to read your experience.
