MotoringFile

MotoringFile Transitions

MotoringFile has officially completed its move to a new server and host. While we experienced a few technical difficulties over the last 24 hours, we seem to up and running without any issues at this point. That being said, we have temporarily turned off the MotoringFile Newsroom until we can finish up a few lose ends related to the transition.

I also want to take this opportunity to mention that MotoringFile will be moving to a new weblog platform altogether in the coming weeks. While we don’t expect any downtime due to this change, you may notice a few small differences in the near future and a few larger ones in the months ahead.

As always, any feedback you have is welcome.

Best regards,
Gabe Bridger

What weblog platform are you moving to?

Welcome Back! Now, where is the “more juicy bits of info on the 2006 MINI”?

Can’t wait! :)

Gabe, I hope you’re not thinking of changing the layout to something like what Mini2.com or North American Motoring has? Please don’t. I’ve stopped visiting those sites because they are not user friendly and are cluttered. In addition you have to register to post, that sucks. I really enjoy the layout and format of your site.

As I wrote in an earlier post, your site is clean, organized, user friendly, and news & info is easy to read and find.

Thanks

Lauryn Jul 17th, 2005 Link

Gabe, To paraphrase a prior post:

Your site is clean, organized, user friendly and the news & info is easy to read and find.

Please don’t change the layout to something like what Mini2.com or North American Motoring has.

Those sites are not user friendly. Don’t mess with success!

RB Jul 17th, 2005 Link

I’ll second what Ralph said.

Wraith Jul 17th, 2005 Link

i concur with RB, Lauryn, and Ralph. no point in fixing something that isn’t broken; this site is hands down one of the cleanest most user friendly sites that i visit, i really really hope it stays that way.

Matt Jul 17th, 2005 Link

You don’t need to worry about that. Gabe has no intention of ever turning this site into a forum.

gmini Jul 17th, 2005 Link

never noticed any user unfriendliness in the forums whose names are being thrown about. they are both forums. their discussion based purpose makes them more complex. they rely on advertising and member suppport to support this complexity. this is a news/blog site with a comment section. its purpose is clean cut and simple. apples and oranges. both fruit. one gets uglier sometimes.

i love motoringfile. it is a very efficient method of info delivery. i doubt gabe is going to switch over to some cpg/vbulletin clone. but if there is a more interactive comment section – then great!

RB Jul 17th, 2005 Link

Hey no bad intent about other sites it’s just to me and others they seem very not user friendly..that’s all. Let’s not make it into something it wasn’t intended to be!

jared Jul 17th, 2005 Link

If you are looking for a place to post comments about news, this is your place. If you’re looking for a place to be a part of an online (and offline) community, this is not the place.

Gabe Jul 17th, 2005 Link

Thanks guys for the compliments. First off a lot of the thanks should go to Matt doing a lot to make MotoringFile user friendly and easy to navigate.

As Matt mentioned I have no intention of adding a forums type functionality to MotoringFile. While I personally enjoy the sites metioned above that do go this route, it’s not what I would want to see MF become.

So no worries! MF will continue much the same way it has for the past three years… only better.

Vaper Jul 17th, 2005 Link

…okay then, when do we get the ‘06 juicy bits?

JimOhio Jul 17th, 2005 Link

i like this site with it’a layout and the host’s appreciation for posters that have meaningful contributions to make (like me)..

and for an extra contribution, i offer this for your viewing enjoyment

well that link, cool as it is, was not the exact one i wanted to post..

i would have edited it and re-posted the message but not sure there is an edit feature on this.. an edit feature would be nice.

this link shows my classic mini along with the counterfeit MC 40 i tweak with from time to time.

Well unfortunately my experiences have not been so good on Mini2.com. I posted some info I had from my trip to Germany earlier this year and I got ripped that I was way behind the times and it was old info, etc, etc.

Anyway, thanks Gabe and Matt for having this site and keeping the structure the way it is. Great info and news.

gmini Jul 17th, 2005 Link

I hate to think that I might have been a part of that rippin, ralph. I moderate a sliver of MINI2 and that kind of negativity is not espoused nor tolerated by myself and our members in that sliver, and certainly the same applies to the entire site.

As far as occasional unfriendlines from user to user, unfortunate as it is, no bulletin board is entirely innocent. I’m sorry your post was not received well.

Gabe Jul 18th, 2005 Link

What weblog platform are you moving to?

Wordpress. We’ve been planning a move for over eight months now actually. We had wanted to move servers the same weekend as moving software but that didn’t quite work out.

Dillon Jul 18th, 2005 Link

…well worth the wait,Gabe. to quote a line that my Wife likes to say from the show,”Sex In The City”…”…me likey.” Keep the good work up,Gabe…

O(=^=)O Capn Jul 18th, 2005 Link

Yes excellent layout!

Angelo Jul 18th, 2005 Link

For those of you who have a BlackBerry, or perhaps any other handheld, the site is so easy to view. I’m sitting on a plane right now during a delay and I can while away the time viewing motoringfile. The pictures even resize. Talk about ease of use!
