Now where have I seen this before? Autoweek has some pretty familiar looking photos of what appears to be the new extended wheelbase MINI. Here’s an excerpt from the article:
If our information is accurate, chances are good the fun folks from BMW’s small-car subsidiary, Mini, will unveil a ‘concept’ version of this car at the Frankfurt motor show.
We hear Mini will call its Frankfurt woody wagon concept the Countryman, but when the bigger, boxier Mini hits the market it will likely carry the Clubman or Traveller moniker, or both. Details are sketchy, but this new model will likely appear in 2007 as an ’08 model, built on the extended wheelbase Mini five-door hatch due in 2006 as an ’07 model.

MF Analysis: We’ve also heard a few of the Frankfurt rumors in the past several weeks. However more than one automotive publication (including Autoweek’s sister publication Automotive News) has claimed that there will be nothing new from MINI at the show. However on the face of it the timing would be perfect. It would also fit with what BMW typically likes to do when getting ready to release an entirely new model; release a ‘design study’ that points towards a next generation car by focusing on a future iteration rather than the soon to be released standard layout.

<p>Hehehehe… You are probably correct that many will say this. I on the other hand will be one of the first to line up and purchase one. I happen to be a big fan of wagons (as opposed to SUVs or minivans) It will complement my 02 MCS nicely!</p>
<p>same here, I’m all for a wagon. They are much more practical than an SUV or van. I just hate trying to look around or over them, it really limits my view as a driver. </p>
<p>and please, stop being so dramatic. Unless you truly feel that you no longer like your 3 door mini just because they come out with a 5 door option as well, MINI is still good.</p>

<p>If MINI had a wagon now in 2005, we’d be a two MINI family now. The only thing that stopped my wife from purchasing a MINI the week after I took delivery of my 2005 MC, was that she felt she couldn’t get enough Greyhounds in the back. We work with a Greyhound rescue group and have three of our own, so she needed a dog-mobile. A MINI wagon would have been purchased on the spot.</p>
<p>Scott in Oz’s hang glider might not fit, but my 7’6″ windsurfer and sail quiver of 5.5M [and down] might just fit inside…</p>
<p>While we’re sharing what’s on our wish lists, I want a AWD WRX killer.

<p>I love the idea of a Mini wagon to complement my 04 MCS JCW. If it can fit a couple of mountain bikes in the back and a child in one rear seat at the time (as my X3 can do), I am sold. Then add the JCW package for a really quick way to get to the trail head!!! This will open a whole new market for MINI…</p>
