Space Blue Hits the Dealerships

Ian over at gbmini.net has a few photos of the ever elusive Space Blue and Silver roof combo that’s sure to be very popular over the next year. While we’ve seen a few photos of this combo previously, this is the most thorough look so far. Check it out below:

I might not like where MINI is going, but I like where they are at.

This is a stunning color. That roof combo is incredible.

2006 models forever.

When are they offering factory installed matching silver hood strips?

agranger Sep 24th, 2005 Link

I’m missing the more dynamic colors that they trimmed to do this. To me, the silver roof is uninspiring and the blue, while pretty, just isn’t what I want out of a MINI. Where is the pop? Where are the ‘Look at ME’ colors? If I wanted that color, I could have bought a Camry or a Town Car. I guess I was just hoping for more.

Maybe it’s better in person.

What’s with the antenna? I don’t see satellite radio or nav system on the sticker.

the new silver roof stripes are available from the factory on october build models

Pretty, but boring. Too bad.

ReplyReply
Wraith Sep 24th, 2005 Link

whoops, i meant to say silver bonnet stripes, not roof, my bad

John Sep 24th, 2005 Link

I have to second agranger’s thoughts. While it is a nice blue, it is a bit boring. MINI needs to continue to have colors that make a statement a grabs attention (like liquid yellow and electric blue). It seems MINI is now content to be just a part of the pack of small cars and let the name speak for itself.

I’d have to name a vehicle with that color combo – ‘Little D.’

I still think it needs a white roof and mirror caps. I think that would really show off the color.

ReplyReply
Bob Sep 24th, 2005 Link

I agree with db. White roof all the way! I was a bit dissapointed that the checkmate package was only for a black or silver roof.

First of all, let me preface this by saying that I hadn’t been keeping up to date with the MINIs for about a year now, and hadn’t been to the “build your own” section of the website since then…

I can’t tell you how disappointed I was upon trying to build an MCS the other day and searching frantically for Liquid Yellow, only to realize it had been discontinued. What’s with the dark gray/blue fascination? Why is the metallic orange offered on the convertible, but not the coupe?

I had also hoped that by now we’d see a “British Racing Green II” in a non-metallic, medium green color.

ReplyReply
James Sep 24th, 2005 Link

Kinda plain color, but I’m sure it’s much better in person.

To all those bemoaning the lack of jazzy colors, remember, it’s like Bush in office…you have only yourselves to blame. Low sales in colors like Liquid Yellow, Electric Blue, Solid Gold, Silk Green, and Velvet Red spelled their demise, not some corporate meeting. If they had sold better, we’d still have them!

As for me, I’m with GJR…give me a good, non-metalic BRG any day!!!

ReplyReply
Matt Sep 24th, 2005 Link

Low sales? I’ve never seen a Liquid Yellow nor Electric Blue sitting around unsold at a dealer in the DC area. How exactly then does anyone come up with “low sales”??

ReplyReply
Mark Sep 24th, 2005 Link

Hmmm, the pictures look like it’s “BMW Blue”, something that might look good on a stately sedan but on a Mini?!

ReplyReply
RB Sep 24th, 2005 Link

I also think MINI is making some mistakes with some of the colours they have dropped.

I like the addition of the silver roof & like the white or black roofs as well but the white mirror caps would never be on any MINI I own. If I did get a white roof I would either have chrome or black caps.

Can’t wait to put a silver roof and silver cobra style stripes on my CR ‘04 MCS but I will be keeping my blk caps. Hopefully next year.

Ian, nice pics.

Found an old Motoring Handbook and noticed another lametably missing color-Candy Blue.

I see plenty of Liquid Yellow and Electric BLue around town as well.

ReplyReply
RB Sep 24th, 2005 Link

If I could have found a LY or an EB I would have bought one! I looked all over the US. I do buy mine used so that was part of the problem.

ReplyReply
RB Sep 24th, 2005 Link

I’m not a fan of all the chrome Ian and others like, not putting down just not a fan, but I can see the chrome package going nicely with the silver roof.

Yes! My 06 has the shark fin antenna!

ReplyReply
Gabe Sep 24th, 2005 Link

What’s with the antenna? I don’t see satellite radio or nav system on the sticker.

Since this particular MINI had just rolled off the truck, the antenna hadn’t been screwed in yet. The 2006 is essentially the same car as the ‘05, thus no return to the shark-fin.

I know a bunch of you don’t like the color/roof combo, but I think it’s awesome. To me it is true mini, but won’t attract unwanted law enforcement attention when you’re zipping around town.

The thing that sucks the most about this is that you can’t get a white roof! I am sorely Irked!!!!!!

First time commenting: Actually, I’m getting one of these colour combinations (it’s already on its way to Port Hueneme). I suppose it is a bit ‘boring’ of a colour, but to be honest I rather like it. The combination gives a level of elegance to the line without being in your face about it–understated if you will. It’s still a MINI underneath it all and that’s what matters.

I wouldn’t worry about this color being called boring. There are a lot of people that are simply taking out their lack of bright color frustrations on the pictures above. I personally love the color combo and can’t wait to see one in person. In fact since 2001 I’ve been hoping MINI would release a dark blue.

Of course it would be nice to see some brighter colors in the mix as well. However this is the color environment that we currently live in. Take a look at advanced color forcasting and you’ll see that MINI is spot on with what is currently popular and selling. I would expect this to change in the next couple of years since this, to some extent, is cyclical.

Yeah, I like it, just wish it came with the white roof. Ever since they killed Indi blue….

However, i agree with a lot of folks here. give us a REAL BRG!

i toured the plant last week and saw quite a few of the new blue and new grey combinations on the line. they are nice colors and the silver roof is awesome. i still (as gabe said) am frustrated by the lack of bright color choices but these new colors are nice.

This is killing me! I’m ordering (In Milwaukee) this saturday; I hope they have a SB/S on the lot (They had a SB/SB, but it’s already gone). If SB came with a white roof, it’d be easy–I’m not sure how it’s going to look in person with a silver roof, but those pictures are encouraging. Maybe do the roof checkered in SB/Silver, and add some aftermarket silver bonnet stripes (the old fashioned ones). Decisions, decisions…

The roof and mirror caps look like they were spraypainted.

Thanks, Ian! That is one SWEET color combination. I love it. And if i had the money, i’d buy it. What better way to commemorate the last run of the Supercharged MINI. Maybe a lightweight supercharged MCS…

John Sep 26th, 2005 Link

I ordered a SB/S with stripe Aug 6, it’s on the boat at the moment. I like the bright colors, but was a little afraid they might attract the wrong kind of attention…from the black and white MINIs with the light bars…

I actually would have liked a Checkmate except for the flame spokes and side graphics.

Actually, I kind of like it. It looks very sleek, a little classy/refined and the more I look at it, it grows on me. I own a pepper white/black roof mcs (took delivery last week :-); and I absolutely love the simplicity of it.

Congrats to all those who ordered teh space blue!- oh, and Gabe, love the site; keep up the great work!

Why is the gray roof / mirrors so dull, not shiny? I want a royal grey / silver, but not if the silver is like that… =ß
