Personally I like this concept. If it were on the market, I'd definately buy one. A few things I'd have done differetly, but for the main, I really like it! Especially the colors! This isn't your everyday type car, which I love! I like seeing MINI taking a rather large and creative step in design ideas.

c'mon people! This is a concept car- it is supposed to be outrageous. It the perfect anime car- totally cartoon like and fun. I mean I wouldn't be caught dead in it but, well, ok, if Mini gave me one, of course i'd drive it. I do love the idea of a Mini wagon and will surely purchase one when they arrive!

I really like some of the innovations. Had to get past the day-glo colours (but even they started to look good once I acclimated). Not sure about how water tight the back gate windows would be.

All in all, it's a pretty cool little car.

Thanks Gabe!

And how would this 'damage' MINI's reputation? Because you don't like the color? Because there's a picnic basket in the side window? Or a table intergrated into the roof? People are offended by features that will never see the light of day? How fickle can you get. And this is comming from a MINI owner who loves his 2-spoke, and his mark 1 tail lights. I love my MINI the way it is, and I don't specifically like all the changes that have been made to the MINI. But to hope that MINI loses it's shirt because of a concept? Or that now the MINI brand is somehow tarnished because they made a concept that was not intended to appeal to you (there's a reason that this version was shown in Tokyo, and not Detroit) and your market sensabilities? You should just go stand in the corner with Jim from Ohio, I'm sure you would have a great conversation on how they made too many MINIs already.

I like it, I like it a lot.

I ABSOLUTELY love what they did for the cup holders. Look at the passenger side vent ... the pop down cup holder. What a novel and wonderful idea!!

Those mirror caps look to be either supplied by or inspired by UK designer Paul Smith as well.(www.paulsmith.co.uk)

He's done work with Mini before, and recently did some work for Triumph. I think they would look particularly groovy on my Pepper White MCS...I wonder where I can get my hands on them...

Building a concept car that Stands Out requires no genius or imagination, as this car demonstrates. While some here seem impressed by anything simply on the basis of it Standing Out, I'd have to agree with Mark's comment that this concept is as likely to damage MINI's image as it is to attract attention.

Wow...What's up with all of the anger? As Brian Regan once said "It's Not What I'm Used To!". Nobody is going to take your MINI out of your garage and replace it with the Tokyo Concept. Anyways, what part of Concept don't people get? Yes, the colors are terrible, but if you want to stand out, you have to go bigger and brighter than the next stand over. It works for Las Vegas. As far as concepts go, this is an awesome car. Do I want it in my garage? Not in this form. Would I want it on my shelf with my collection of MINI models? You better believe it.

Darn, at first I thought these ingenious vent cupholders were going to include a Thermal Electric Cooler that would cool our Cokes or warm our Tea. Too bad they did not think about that.

If forget the color, there are a lot of details on this car that are flat COOL! I like the keyfob idea, front flip hood, hidden cupholders, Union Jack diagonal seam covers (way cool), driving lights integrated in to the grill and modular wheels.

GMG

Well, If you think about it, The a/c blowing on your drink cools it when it is hot out and the Heat keeps your beverages hot when it is cold outside.

Your repeated stories on the Mini Concept Tokyo are becoming extremely tiresome. You may not touch my monkey.

Tanya I'm old enough to know what that meant the first time. I'm kinda shocked that you would say such a crass thing, even if you are hot.

"love him, touch him, pet him..." I'll stop now.

thats one of the ugliest things ive eve seen! as soon as i start to like the original concept, they drop this ugly junker!

seriously, what part of this car is supposed to be atteactive in ANY way??? its just gaudy and ugly all around!

i think its time to start questioning some of the design team over at BMW.

Play nice, now. ;-)

MINI's War and Peace-like apologia is somewhat more than the usual simple press release, and somewhat less than a blanket mea culpa - this was a team effort, I'm sure, and like all teams, the leaders retire to the Caymans, and the messengers...well we all know about that. Someone at the top said go as far as you can, so they did - right off the map into uncharted territory. This would never be my choice for a MINI, but in a world of extreme anime and '60s boot-licking, I'd say it fits like a glove. A proctologist's glove, mebbe. ;-) Not my cuppa, I daresay.
