ReplyYear-to-date, MINI USA reported sales of 35,213, an increase of 22 percent compared to the 28,859 sold in the first ten months of 2004. The division also reported monthly sales of 3,203 cars, about the same as the 3,189 cars reported in October of 2004.

ReplyIf sales are up 22%, does that mean that production is up 22% as well? I don’t know about you guys, but I haven’t seen any indications of excess production capacity at any time in the MINI’s lifecycle.
Where are these additional sales coming from, unless they are just extending lead times on orders and booking future sales?
Replymy thoughts too. where are they getting all these extra cars from without increased production????
ReplyIf USA is getting more cars then some countries are getting less. The sales success of MINI in USA is exemplary. Not since the Beatles hit town has a british icon performed so well.
ReplyWhat surprises me is the low number of MINI Cooper sales these last two months – about half the average level for the non-S …
ReplyInteresting: the 22% increase is mostly due to a large increas in production earlier in the year, but if you look at October ‘05 and compare it to October ‘04, production/sales were actually DOWN 5% compared to a year ago.

Not quite. Ian appears to have entered the total for September in place of the total for October. The actual total for October 2005 is 3,203, which is slightly higher than Oct. 2004’s 3,189.
Gabe’s headline is a little misleading since the 22% sales increase was not in October, but year to date. October’s increase is very small.
