MINI vs Snow

As our friends in the northeast of US dig out of over two feet of freshly fallen snow, we thought it would be a great time to “dig” into the MF archives a bit. Here’s classic from a few years back from MF reader Eric Zwirnmann. It’s time lapse footage of his MCSc getting eaten alive by a comparatively moderate snow storm from 2005:

[ MINI vs Blizzard/800k ] (Quicktime)

If you need more car stuck in snow action, click over to our friends at MPH to check out why it’s best to park off street the night before:

[ Huge Snow, Mini Problem ] MPH

And finally to all the the MF readers from NYC and other parts affected: I’m insanely jealous.

Took me a hour and a half… I dug my MINI out of the snow on the upper east side, it was almost covered to the roof… but I had a hell of alot of fun driving it today! =)

Gabe, wasn’t there a movie you showed a long time ago with a MINI in a rain storm being flooded in front of the guy’s house?

I had a “fun” drive from maine to boston in the blizzard yesterday, the mini doing better than most cars and trucks on the road.

But yesterday’s snow pales in comparison to the blizzard a year ago.

Gabe – you’re welcome to all the snow you want; say the word and I’ll figure a way to send it to you ;)

Much more snow in CT from this blizzard vs. ‘05…

Neat time lapse. But we didn’t get any snow here, central NY.

I’ve been driving my Mini through the whole snow storm. It’s a blast!

Fortunately I have a garage so I didn’t have to do any digging…

Whoa hahahah We don’t get much of the icey flakes here in the southwest…Then again, I haven’t heard of anyone complaining about it either!

Good luck to all those living up there! Stay warm and safe!

After more than thirteen weeks of waiting, my JCW MCSc was ready Saturday morning for delivery – I was at the dealer at 9:20 am to greet my first MINI and spent the next few hours becoming acquainted. Before I could do ANY serious motoring, the flakes fell and poor Maggie tucked herself in for the blast…

Spring is coming….

Today’s my MINI’s 2nd Birthday (based upon delivery date) and she motored thru the 12 inches of snow on the ground here as faithfully as she always has.

Actually, the roads are all clear now so it’s not really a challenge.

For her first winter I bought a duplicate set wheels and Blizz winter tires for the winter months.

While I’m not big on driving in snow (not for my ability – but all the other idiots out there), my MINI has never let me down.

Gabe,

Thanks for reposting my movie!! The other day when it snowed, I once again had to park my MINI (as well as my g/f’s MINI) out in front of my house. The alley way (I live in the city) behind my house doesn’t get cleared by the snow plowes and can easily get 2ft-3ft drifts (not very MINI Friendly). I should have made a new movie of both MINIs getting covered – we got about 15″ of snow.

I must admit, I’m always concerned when I get that much snow weight on the Convertible roof. I actually thought about putting the down roof so that I wouldn’t need to clean it off later — j/k :-)

Hey, guys. I’d like to be there. It’s been 7 years I haven’t had chance for a snow fun-drive and specially with my MCS.

-cheers from California :)

Would love to watch the movie but unfortunately it was created using the worst viewer ever created, Quicktime. So I can’t watch it since it is buggy as all Quicktime movies are (at least in my experience on 4 different computers) :(

That’s about the opposite of almost every other opinion I’ve ever heard on the matter. Kinda odd. Do you work for Real?

Egads, the PC version of Quicktime is wretched… It refused to intergrate with Opera… bah!…

And how about some vids of MINIs driving in the snow… You know, ones that capture the look of suprise on the SUV drivers that we are driving past.. :)

Erik…
