I want one! :)
Any idea where this was filmed?
ReplyAnother treat for those who are getting a little more excited about the JCW GP these days. We’ve got a minute and a half of the GP zigging, zagging and screeching it’s way through some tasty canyon roads. You can download it in your preferred video codec below:
GP vs The Canyons video:
Quicktime: Large (3.1MB) / Ridiculously Large (11.4MB)
Windows Media: Large (3.5MB) / Ridiculously Large (12.3MB)
The “ridiculously large” files size will only be available for 24 hours… so get it now! (all files are zipped)
Gotta say…. I love those guages. Not entirely thrilled about the rest, but the guages are a big improvement. Any idea if the interior lights are still all orange ?
ReplyWhile that was really nicely shot and edited. Hmmm, gives me some ideas. Oh and the car didn’t look bad either! LOL.
ReplyWhat, no Clive Owen?
This short video doesn’t make it any easier being a MINI non-owner, GP or otherwise. I demand more video footage like this, at sickeningly higher resolutions that would bring my computer to its knees.
ReplyWow!!! Do our cars really stay THAT flat through the turns?? I never really saw the MINI go around bends from outside of the car before.
ReplyCool video – interesting that there is no commentary or music.
The car interests me hugely. Unfortunately there has been no word yet whether we’ll be lucky enough to get any here in South Africa.
I need a little more chrome on the grill – not as much as with the exterior chrome pack, but the same amount that comes stock with the MCS.
My one consolation in that you can have almost exactly as much fun in a standard, more accessible MC or MCS.
ReplyGod those mirrors stick out like angry red bulbous warts on a pretty girls face.
Nice Mini
ReplyWOW! It sounds awesome, but the way it was shot makes it look slow.

Kudos to BMW for using the real undoctored engine sounds. I still love those seats!
ReplyOkay, that was weird. I forgot I had XM Radio streaming on my computer while watching that. Somehow Jessi Colter’s “I’m Not Lisa” streamed to that video fit very well.
Love the sound of the car.
ReplyEngine sounds nice, but I think I’m going to have to get another Borla race exhaust. Way to quiet compared to my ‘03 with Borla.
Then again, without the sound deadining it may sound just right inside.
Replywait. what color is this thing, anyway??? Thunder Blue looks an aweful lot like royal grey, or even dark silver….
ReplyWOW! It sounds awesome, but the way it was shot makes it look slow.
That was my opinion as well. It looks like a video montage from MotorWeek when they’d take a Ferrari F50 and drive it lazily through the Maryland scenery and not really wind it up except for their 0-60 and braking tests on their closed course. Compare that to your average episode of Top Gear where they are purposefully driving the hell out of the car. They’re obviously putting the GP through its paces, but the way it’s shot it just doesn’t look that impressive from a performance standpoint. Sure, it shows off the looks and growl in a great way, but give me some zoom. The spy video on the R56 is a much more exciting piece of video IMO.
And speaking of Top Gear, if you’re looking for some fun, high-octane MINI video, check this out.
ReplyYou know, by posting links to videos that have been linked to since before MotoringFile even existed… you could lose your post of the month award… :) I kid I kid!
Actually for all those who haven’t seen that one… it’s the first Top Gear test of a JCW MCS vs some other UK based tuners. It’s really worth a click. It’s nice to see that Hammond comes to the same conclusion I made when I first tested the JCW MCS.
ReplyHow cool would it be to have GP 0001?! I could see that going for big bucks at Barrett Jackson in 25 years (or even today)…
Of course even if I had that model number I’d still drive the living snot out of it.
ReplyGod those mirrors stick out like angry red bulbous warts on a pretty girls face.
I was thinking of it as “afterglow”.
ReplyAnd speaking of Top Gear, if you’re looking for some fun, high-octane MINI video, check this out.
Ah, what a great Hammond quote. “I was parking vigorously!”
I’m pretty underwhelmed with the video. The car looks pretty sharp; I like the mirrors, hate the wheels. And the gauges are sleep-inducing. I can kind of appreciate the “detuned” appearance, but I prefer my “arrest me red” MCS and am happy I don’t have something else to lust after at this point. :-)
ReplyNo…No…NO! All of you people who have been badmouthing the GP are NOT ALLOWED to change your minds! Those of us who have been fans from the beginning should get preference. You non-believers and johnny-come-lately’s can just go and be happy with a modified Checkmate or something… :-)

Yea!
ReplyCool video – interesting that there is no commentary or music.
I don’t know what video you were watching, but I heard music all through that video. Touched off with a nice Whine.
hmmn… chhheese, whine…hmmn
(wipes drool off.)
anyway. I’m not sure if I like this because it’s a MINI or because it is a GP.
ReplyThat’s the most impressive sound I’ve heard for a while…! Wonder what it would sound like going through a tunnel? =)
ReplyLooks like a MCS to me “big deal” I have one that almost looks just like it. Nobody could tell it was anything special. That being said, I would love to drive the Hell out of it and thank god the cops didn’t catch me doing it. We’ll see if it needs to have a Depends Under Garment dispenser option aboard!!
Replywhat makes engine sound like that??? Can classic Mini sound like that too?????
ReplyYou know, by posting links to videos that have been linked to since before MotoringFile even existed… you could lose your post of the month award… :) I kid I kid!
LOL! Oh I knew it was nothing new to the old and faithful of the MotoringFile readers. Just something worth mentioning to any new folks who hadn’t seen it. I’ve got a downloaded copy of this clip on my Powerbook that I watch from time to time. I love it! I especially love his conclusion – how the JCW car simply felt better than the other jobs, even if they did have more bhp. Of course that’s a story as old as the Mini itself – the car has never been accurately represented by its pure stats. 65 bhp isn’t supposed to win Rally races.
And besides, I’m saving up all my good posts ’till March. I have a title to defend now. ;-)
ReplyThat is sweet – sounds sooooo good.
22k …………… hmmm, kids dinner money ……
ReplyGabe – another brilliant piece of info – thanks! Still loving the GP and getting really excited!
Replyis that paul simon singing me, “can’t get used to something so right… something so right”?
I hope to see some of you motorin’ about in these soon.
ReplyIs it just me or does the engine of the GP sound like a vacum cleaner?
Marty
ReplyGreat video, downloaded to my phone so when someone ask me what is a MINI Cooper …..
ReplyRed mirrors = yes!
Boy-racer spoiler = no!
Sound of that exhaust and supercharger = HECK YEAH!!!!
Reply[...] Potete vedere anche un video della JCW GP impegnata sulle curve di un canyon. Does anyone know what tires it will use?
205/40-18 Dunlop SP Sport 01 DSST tires are fitted to the other 18″ JCW wheel offerings.
ReplyThat was fun.
Gonna miss the SuperCharger whine on the new cars so I am planning on keeping the ‘04 until it dies.
I have the Dunlop Sport SP 9000 DSST RF’s on my MCS, they are a nice all around tire but aren’t very sticky in the corners. 22,000 miles and thy still have most of their tread.
Reply[...] Oooh a video of the limited edition Mini Cooper S Works GP in action. Sounds lovely. Shame it’s a bit disturbing to look at. Tags [...]
Looks better in the vid/sounds great – Kids & wife on ebay time I think :) :)
