You know the ambient under-toggle orange-glow lights that light up the cupholder area? How many tiny little bulbs are there supposed to be? It looks/feels like 3, but only 2 of mine glow. Never really noticed how many there were until I ran my finger under there, and noticed that the left and right ones are working but the center one is not (that’s if there is a center one).

There is a spot for a 3rd but only two are actually used.

See Ian's site for details -- http://www.gbmini.net/gallery/ToggleSwitchPanel

I do recall that the car was modified so trash could be used to power the flux capacitor. Does that mean my MINI becomes a biofuel car after installing the interior light kit?

Thanks for the PDF though, it confirms that i can tie my 20 cent leds into the cigarette lighter power!

Any thoughts on how to build that wiring harness from the cigarette lighter?

Is there a stainless steel bonnet available to help with flux dispersion? If your car still has the factory MINI antenna, you've already got a lightning rod. And if there is a Mr. Fusion available for the MINI, my guess is that Randy Webb has the only one.

Where can I find a a copy of the accessories catalog? Can it be downloaded?

I picked up a 2006 accessories catalog at my dealer last week when I was in for service. I understand there is also a separate JCW accessories catalog but I forgot to look for it. In the past I have looked for a downloadable accessories catalog but never found one.

It's a neat idea. Scion has something like it for $139 but it lights the footwells too. I don't like the light bar (looks cheap in person) but do like the leds in the cupholders.
Here's my problem. The kit contains 3 leds, one for each cupholder and one for the light bar (20 cents each at a local reseller), a tubular piece of acrylic (less than a dollar at same reseller, a diode or two (25 cents each), and some wiring to tie it into the cigarette lighter (lets give that a generous $5 price tag) That brings the total parts price to about $7.50. Now where exactly did MINI get the $125 price point from? Add to that the $150 install and i am now paying $275 for something that wouldn't be too hard to build for less than $10.

Thanks for the PDF though, it confirms that i can tie my 20 cent leds into the cigarette lighter power!

Yeah, but how do you get the 1.21 Gigawatts for the thing to work right? It's not like I can hook up a "Mr. Fusion" to it.

They position the switch at a rather odd, unintuitive location that is not easy to either see or reach. It is down low on the side next to the gear shifter, where it could even be obscured by the drivers seat. If you told some random person to turn on the light, they'd never find the switch.

I'm also surprised at how complicated the installation is for such a little feature, but I guess that's what it takes to do something cleanly.

My wife’s A4 has something like this. Our salesman called it a waterfall effect. It starts from the headliner area and washes over the dash and center console area.

Actually the 2005 and 2006 MINIs have this effect via the two small LED mounted near the rear view mirror. It's take straight out of the E46 3 series. What's listed above is much brighter.
