MotoringFile Badges: New Additions

Due to popular demand we’re adding a few new grille badges this week. For one we’ve created non-MotoringFile branded Union Jacks badges in all colors. Now we’re not sure why in the world you’d want non-MF badges but hey, we’re always happy to offer options ;)

Also starting this week we’ll also be making available a new (non MF branded) black and metallic silver version of the union jack and two Whiteroofradio badges. One WRR badge is based on the normal WWR logo and the other is a special AMVIV edition. And finally don’t forget to check out the limited edition MotoringFile Dragon badge if you’re heading down that event in early May.

You can check out larger versions below (along with our new gallery system) by clicking on each badge:

All badges are $7.50, fit in the official MINI USA badge holder (part #: 51 13 0 406 752) and can be bought from the link below:

[ MotoringFile Grille Badges For Sale ] Todd’s Modd/WRR

You can get your official MINI grille badge holder at any one of the MotoringFile sponsors below:

Knauz MINI (mention MF and get 20% off) (verified in stock)
Patrick MINI
Morristown MINI (lists for 20% off)
MINI of Manhattan

Now for all you folks who have no idea what we’re talking about here, this post may help:

Keep up the good work, guys. I’m new to the MINI world, but will be ordering a badge or two once my MINI arrives. I look forward to new, as-yet-unseen badges!

Awesome! I’m trying to work out the details with my local club to have some of these made.

Great idea!!

St. George’s Cross? That’s on the to do list!

I think country flags would be cool but I guess a pain for you guys.

I liked the St George’s Afro look myself. Now that would make a button!

I love these, but how about some options that are less British focused? I realize Mini is a British car, but I could do with an American rendition or maybe something a little irreverent to go with the Mini motoring style.

What we really need is a personalized design tool online! Let individuals upload photos that can be scaled/positioned on the page to represent what their custom badge will look like, then let them order it!

That way, we can get whatever flag, image, photo, symbol, or design that we can think of! (you know how mini had that online tool to let you design custom rooftops? not that you could order it off the site, but thats the idea…)

any idea if there are plans for different country badges? If you get one with the Portuguese flag’s shield, I’ll take one now!

That green sure is a-winking at me.

Q: are 2 badges, too many?

ReplyReply
ukplyot Apr 5th, 2006 Link

patrick has a good question – what does it take to make a badge? I’m sure Todd doesn’t want to be flooded with one-off design requests but at the same time I don’t want to be one of the crowd with the same badge(s).

The MINI site said that two badges was the most due to possible interference with engine cooling, anyone have any experience with how many is best?

Vector artwork (ideally created in Adobe Illustrator) that is a perfect circle.

I’m sure you have lots of ideas already, but here are few I would be interested in: F1 related, ones related to curves like Made for Curves, or perhaps Curve Seeker incorporating the road sign arrow or some other curved lines; Actual Size; Autocross cone related; No Drooling; Coffee related; checker flag related; MINI ID; NAM sign-on name.

Will MINI be offering some, otherwise can you get permission for the Cooper logo w/ the red circle? I’d love to have one of those. Sure others would like JCW.

How about package prices – 5 for $30 or $35?

We can’t do trademarked images so that eliminates brands from the equation. Generally I think we’re going to stick with MINI-like design themes playing off the heritage of the car. Obviously we could quit our day jobs and do anything and everything under the sun but I don’t see that happening anytime soon. In the meantime just send it suggestions. When we get enough suggestions for an idea we’ll definitely take a look at making it an officially offered badge!

As far as package pricing (discounts for greater numbers), Todd would know more about that future option.

Got my badge today…mixed feelings.

I love the design and quality ink (I purchased a silver UJ) used for the product, and you cannot beat the price, but I was expecting it to be:

1)a little thicker magnet, which isn’t too big of a deal and

2)seems to have been cut out or printed wrong, since the border around the UJ is a different width in areas (UJ not centered correctly).

I’m debating on whether or not to go ahead and get the holder, as I wanted to wait and see what the badges looked like first.

I don’t like it when things aren’t perfectly centered but unfortunately in print production, you’re never going to get perfect. That is unless you hand trim each piece, which would cost $25+ each instead of $7.50.

How bad is it?

Gabe Apr 9th, 2006 Link

I don’t think they can be much thicker and still work properly on the grille badge – especially at speed. As it stands they’ve been tested up to 100mph.

That seems unusual. I believe out of all the ones I have I haven’t seen anything not printed perfectly on center. If you email Todd photos I’m sure he’d be happy to chat with you about it.

Sorry if you’re badge is a little off center. Send me an e-mail todd(at)toddsmods.com and I’ll be happy to send you a replacement. As dickdavid said, it’s very difficult in production to make every item perfect but I sure try. While every effort is made to produce a quality product, sometimes a flaw is missed. I am willing to replace any that are not to the customer’s satisfaction so let me know.

Thanks.

37 was the number of the first Mini (driven by Paddy Hopkirk) to win the Monte Carlo Rally in 1963. A watershed moment in Mini history. So that number is usually the first one that comes to mind when you’re thinking of MINIs and Minis.
