And how I wish I hadn’t. I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

  • KUMINIAC

What does he mean he wants to “upgrade” his car collection by “selling” his MINI?

  • http://mysite.verizon.net/resq3ahk/ Jon

I’m not a NASCAR fan, but I am actually kind of impressed that a guy like Dale Jr. would even think about buying a MINI Cooper S. It shows maturity on his part, and that he really does appreciate cars that perform well. I think I actually respect him more now, knowing what good taste in cars he has.

I’m also a bit jealous of his wealth; that he can basically throw the entire Mini Mania catalog into his car, without batting an eyelash!

But by him selling his MINI, my next question to you Gabe is this: are there any rumors of him buying another MINI? Perhaps the GP?

    Enquiring minds want to know!

  • Bart

    270 hp?

  • http://kropp.poetshome.com Grendel

The tires on the right side of the car are probably completely worn, while the tires on the left show very little signs of wear…….

It’s got three thousand miles on it! That’s an abomination! :-)

  • Pedro

That’s awesome! I am a huge Jeff Gordon fan, but I have to say – I just may have to pick up a number 8 decal now that I know Jr. has this much taste in cars!

  • http://www.detailingconcepts.com matt

good taste? diamond plate floor mats defy good taste.

    I am sorry…

Nah, All kidding aside, this is a sweet looking ride… pretty cool that you can get it right from him too…

  • BL

“good taste? diamond plate floor mats defy good taste.”

Ha ha ha ha…. that was good.

  • The Seeker

A while back Chevy had JR track test the new Corvette. One of the reporters asked him what he drove to the track that day and he replied “MINI Cooper S”. There was a great discussion following with JR bragging about the car and answering questions for about 15 minutes or so. Chevy was … unappreciative. Video might still be out on the web somewhere …

  • kelly

i probably wreaks of drakkar nior.

  • Yegor H.

I am selling mine. Well it doesn’t have 270Hp engine, but I promise, I will have my autograph on it. :-)

  • LMB

Didn’t have a clue who Dale Earnhardt Jr was but did a google so now I know.

    It’d be a nice collectors item for a fan.:o)

  • HBAlameda

Be sure to read down to the question-and-answer portion of the auction. I got a kick out of the first one.

  • Gary

If I win the lotto, I would have to consider seriously going down to pick this puppy up.

I would of course hand Jr. the diamond plate floormats back and ask him to through them away or something. ;-)

  • Shamus

    Love that Stick-On carbon fiber!!!

  • http://www.guardyourpants.com/ nick

If I’m not mistaken, this isn’t the only MINI that Jr. owns. I’ve seen him on television in a Chili Red S as well.

  • tim

Yeah, but this is the best color of the two mini’s he own’s. I’ve heard that George Foreman is also a Mini owner. Could this be true?

  • Kennedy

So he lives in NC and didn’t come to the Dragon? I guess he was scared of those hard rights…

And seriously, could you just say that he’s getting rid of this to make room for another car, or because he’s driven it like 750 miles/year and tired of all those annoying problems with the coolant expansion tank, rattles, etc? Obviously, if he wanted another car, he could probably afford to just go pick something out. I didn’t realize he would need some of my money to help him get in his next ride, I swear there’s just something ironic about that.

Shamus Jun 20th, 2006 Link Love that Stick-On carbon fiber!!!

I doubt it is the stick on. Probably the JCW CF dash kit. The real thing. Expensive.

  • robble

Actually the right hand side can’t be JCW due to the moons. It is probably still real CF with the cash the guy has.

  • WingNut

I was amazed he had the taste to own one to begin with… he did feel the need to add running board however.

    Cheers

  • Ian F

I just think it’s cool to think of Dale relaxing in the RV after practice or qualitfying and thumbing through a MINI Mania catalog… or even reading the comments on this site.

  • Shamus

You’re right, it is real carbon…real carbon adhesive stick-on panels. The silver dash is still visible underneath. You figure he’d at least pony up for the full JCW dash!? Oh well.

  • Smoke07

Dale Jr. is one of the coolist nascar drivers there is besides Tony Stewart. I know for a fact that Ryan Newman has a mini also. I know the guy who sold him his mini here in Az.

These guys love there cars and there just like us in having fun playing/moding there cars.

  • Jon

I just (wrongly) assumed that NASCAR drivers drive RWD muscle cars around, not MINIs. They get their kicks doing long smokey burnouts in American cars like Mustangs, Camaros and Trans-Ams.

I stand corrected, and gratefully so. My respect for NASCAR drivers has increased. (I still prefer F1, Champ and Indy racing a lot more).

  • http://www.nemini.org paulgraz

    3000 miles huh? Only driven on 6 Sundays… :-)

  • Bill Lawrence

I heard that he told the dealer in Charlotte that he may have “overdone it” on his modifications.

  • http://N/A Craig L. Gay

Just wondering here….But selling the 2002 “S” in order to expand his collection? I would think that “JR” would have more than enough cash to do so without selling the “S”….Although the “S” surely looks sweet, I personally agree with others, it is a bit “overboard” and “overdone”. Never know what a NASCAR “head” will do when given a chance…..LET’S MOTOR ON!!!!!!!

  • O(=^=)O Capn

Okay, looks like this might get “archived” by ebay soon so I am copying the pertinent info here.

    Winning bid: US $33,800.00

    Vehicle Description

Dale Jr. is looking to upgrade his car collection, so he is auctioning his 2002 Mini Cooper. This vehicle, which was purchased new by Dale Jr. in 2002, has been completely modified to provide the ultimate in performance and appearance. With only 3124 original miles, it is equipped with an upgraded computer, exhaust, transmission, clutch, and suspension. In addition, it has an installed super charger providing high-end torque to the 270 hp engine. The interior is custom carbon fiber and chrome plated. All modifications were completed by Mini Mania, the leading tuner in Mini Coopers. Dale Jr. has personally autographed the sun visor, and he is willing to autograph the dash if desired by the new owner. The winning bidder will be given the opportunity to receive the vehicle personally from Dale Jr. at his home in North Carolina. This vehicle is being offered through Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s company, JR Motorsports. In addition, the payment method will be processed through JR Motorsports. Once the auction is complete, we will contact you by phone with further instructions regarding acceptance of loan check or money order, and we will arrange a time and date for you to come and receive your vehicle personally from Dale Jr. You can bid with confidence, and we will be willing to answer any questions regarding the vehicle.

Q: Can you tell me if this car started life as a standard Cooper S or a John Cooper Works…then modified? Also how many miles were on the car prior to the mods? Jun-26-06 A: It is a cooper s, and the modifications were placed on the vehicle when it was purchased new. Thanks for your interests. We will be headed to Daytona tomorrow, but I will be responding to questions and maintaining connection with the winning bidder through internat at the track. Thanks.

Q: (1) Is this a charity auction? (2) How to the modifications to the car effect performance, e.g. top speed? Thanks. Jun-21-06 A: Thanks for your interests. This particular vehicle is not involved with a charity association. The performance of the car has been enhanced due to modifications.

Q: Has the car ever been smoked in? Jun-21-06 A: The vehicle has not been smoked in, and there are no other unusual smells associated with the interior.

Q: Is 270 hp correct or is that a typo? Please list the mods. Thanks. Jun-21-06 A: The car dynoed at 223 to the ground, which, when the 20% loss through the drivetrain is calculated, is actually 269.9 at the flywheel. The pulley is a 17% which is what was suggested for daily driving. The head and intake were ported and polished with new stainless valves. The cams were changed. The header/exhaust system was changed, the injectors were upsized and the computer was remapped. The springs, struts, brakes and sway bars were changed. The larger brakes required the larger wheels for clearance.

Q: I thought I would let you know, that the link posted on your official website, won’t link to here. It’s saying ‘Page not responding’ when I try to link. Thanks!! Het
Jun-21-06 A: Thanks for the information. We will try to get the link from the website to take you directly here. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Q: Hello jr14956, I came across this auction but I am concerned about one thing. Due to the owners family history, I have to ask if this car has been involved in any accidents or hit any walls. I did not see it noted in the auction but I wanted to double check. Please get back to me about this issue. Thanks! Jun-20-06 A: ha ha, that got a pretty good reaction in the office. The vehicle is in mint condition, and has never been involved in any accidents.

Q: Your auction is listed under ‘Mini : Mini Cooper (2002-Present)’ but it looks like a Mini Cooper S. Did you make a mistake in listing or is this a Mini Cooper that has been modified to appear as an ‘S’? Jun-20-06 A: It should be listed as an S. The title is registered as an S. Thank you for the correction, and I apologize for the inconvenience.
