AutoExpress Reports on the 2007 MINI

And as usual, gets it wrong. For some reason they’re claiming the 2007 MCS will have 200bhp rather than the 175bhp we’ve verified a few days ago. Here’s an excerpt:

The redesigned front grille and bumper provide the necessary airflow to cool the MINI’s new engines. Developed with Peugeot, the 1.6-litre petrol units will be used in the One, Cooper and Cooper S, but there won’t be a supercharger in sight.

Instead, the hot hatch variant is turbocharged to produce more than 200bhp, fed to the front wheels using an enhanced traction control system.

It’s not that we’re against a 200bhp Cooper S. It’s just that, according to our sources, it doesn’t exsist. You can read the entire article below:

Non-UK people should know that Auto Express is the trashy tabloid of UK car magazines. They are famous for poor photoshops of new models on their cover which they hint are official photos.

An Example of their subterfuge, last week their front page read: “New MINI driven” suggesting it was the ’07 model – you looked inside and it was actually a test of the MCS GP.

They are also known for completely making up or not checking facts abot new models. As a joke, someone from MINI2 sent in a picture of their MCS with a photoshopped black bonnet, they told Auto Express it was a scoop photo of the GP with a lightweight bonnet, and Auto Express ran the story! so take anything credited to Auto Express with a pinch of salt.

    Loving the new MCS, though!

I have seen crazy stories on the autoexpress news, with photoshops that hint at the magazine being published by kids. But why do we keep going back to read their stories and then report on them in the first place?

  • ~Marcus~

In this instance, they have actually published photos that haven’t been retouched, for once!

  • Jon

Ahhh, but how do you know they haven’t been retouched? With their track record, I would just assume that any photo they publish has been retouched in some form or another.

As to why we keep going back to read their stories? The same reason that the Enquirer, the Star, and the Weekly World News still fly off the shelves in our supermarkets, even though we know that the contents are all varying degrees of fake… we like it! Silly humans…

  • Jon

My point is this: my wife and her friends love to read the Weekly World News, where headlines like, “Bat-boy weds mother!” are common. And these stories are always accompanied by a pathetically obvious photoshop chop job.

In our world of all things MINI, Auto Express is our Weekly World News, you see? It is obviously fake, but we know it, and simply just can’t get enough!

But it will, and then some, once the tuned version (possibly under the JCW brand) is released. That’s the date my car replacement plan is tracking to. I’m assuming this will be late 07 or early 08. ~230hp and ~200lbs lighter than the R53. Sweet sassy molassy!

Naturally. As we reported last year the JCW version is on tap to have around 230bhp.

Hmmm, its about time someone spoofed Auto Express again, hey Gabe… ;-)

Hmmm, must get thinking cap on…..

    I know… amphibious Mini being tested… :-))))

    Dorks.

  • Christabel

Aw shucks, I Googled amphibious Mini and it’s a spoof. I’m thinking Italian Job 3 here.
