"the mail slot is just for show" seems to fly in the face of form follows function Mini/MINI mentality...

the whole car looks more aggressive while maintaining the original MINI look.

I like the scoop because its functional not because it is another line on the hood...my .02

I can't stand that exposed cowl at the bottom of the windshield. I guess MINI could not do much in that area due to the European pedestrian regulations.

Great review! When the time comes, I will seriously consider getting a new MINI, even though I'm not entirely pleased with either the exterior or interior styling. It's all about the driving, and if the new version is improved I'll get in line for a new one.

I was shocked at the mpg also. Didn't think the gallon they referenced was bigger than the US gallon.
I expect that's the case now that you pointed it out.
40mpg in a S would be a dream. So would 47mpg in a cooper actually...

Here’s another review of the R56 Prototype w/ pics :

Thanks Mike - we actually posted that review last week.

The article claims that overall weight will increase. I was under the impression that overall weight would decrease.

The MINI folks on hand claimed the 2007 MCS will be 21 lbs heavier than the current car. We're still hearing from a couple very high-level sources that it will decrease dramatically. We'll find out for sure when the technical specifications are released in September.

The article talks about fuel economy of 40 and 47 mpg - would that be the imperial gallon? If so there's not a major breakthrough here.

They made it sound like the new optional sport suspension will still ride better than the current car... I wonder if that will really be the case?

A good article, somebody should share it with Edmunds so they could see what a real writer's article is like.

Seems like some new info spread around in the story too.

"extra-option dynamic stability control" - no more shutting off of the DSC?

"with weight at the rear axle reduced by around 9kg"

"Cooper S models will get chequered-pattern aluminium-effect trim"

These whre the three interesting statment to myself. Though the stated interior treatments where interesting too.
