Hi,

Very informative article on the Mini. I was wondering if anyone might know where I can get information about the designer of the speedometer instrument display (like an email address), I can't seem to get much information off the Mini website.

Thanks.

No one has seemed to mention that MINI has apparently dropped leatherette from their seating options. This isn't a f'ing BMW people, not all of us want leather. I'm vegan and leatherette was definitely included in my purchase decision for my current MINI, and will be in my next car as well. (Yes, I know about cloth, and I hate cloth in car seats..my wife has cloth seats in her A4 and they are uncomfortable) In fact, Audi dropping leatherette was one of the reasons I didn't get another Audi. I was steeling myself for all the interior changes that were rumored, but this was a complete suckerpunch.

This sounds like bad news all around!

A larger Mini… Are you serious?

With ALTA's release of it's new Garrett GT3071R turbo that works in tandem with the existing MCS supercharger, producing up to 400hp, the '07 is a set back in performance options.

What's the purpose in keeping the hood scoop? Great looks? Consistent form?

The integrated stereo will end up being a permanent fixture. Good luck finding an aftermarket to replace it. I guess your glove box will not only house your iPod, but your new stereo system too, to bad for those of you wanting an aftermarket DVD player.

There was mention of an electronically controlled automatic. What happened to the CVT?

An iDrive? Somebody please shoot me now! iDrive is the laughing stock of the auto industry.

With so many changes to the '07, this will seriously dilute the parts pool. Not GOOD!

It's all in the name of innovation, fuel economy, safety, and emission and definitely not in Mini owner’s interests. Like I said, "It’s bad news!"

I think the 07 looks great.......and even if there was something about it I really didn't like, the added performance and gas mileage of the new engine would easily make up for it.

The new interior is nicer and more coherent, and who can argue with better performance?

But the front has been blanded. Looks generic hatchback with nostalgia look added on. Jelly beaned. Lost character.

I'll be keeping my Cooper until the next redesign.

[...] The NEW 2007 MINI is previewed! It’s much like I hoped. The interior looks to use better material and be a bit less cheap plastic. The current model had a lot of untextured and glossy plastics that to me just look cheap. However, many of the current owners don’t like aspects of the new model and their opinions are out there to read too. To me, the first (60’s) models will always be the classic and all others are just different. My main desire is for a small, fast, comfortable car that has an aura of quality. The new one seems to do that a bit better than the last, for me. [...]

Moving on to the roof, the range of paintwork options allows even greater freedom of choice, with the MINI purchaser being able to opt for roof paintwork not only in body colour, but also in black or white.

somehow greater freedom of choice means one less color than the current configuration (the loss of the silver roof).

Outstanding write up. What a great way for me to start the work day!
