I think the dark blue is Lightning Blue.

Actually, I think it's just Astro Black, that may look like dark blue with very bright lights on it.

GadgetGav -

I had the same thought about the plugs! And don't forget knocking the bonnet prop loose after the hook gets your right ear, and letting the hood fall on your noggin. Ouch. ;-) Only a twisted, fiendish mind could've made the decision to turn the original Orange Box motor around 180 deg., throw in a weak drop gear, and LOSE HP, just so the carb wouldn't ice up in the fine English winter - I noticed a few intake heaters on those old Mini SU's over the years anyhoo, but I digress; yeah, this new baby's got some back, for sure, and until I see one in the flesh I will hold my original judgement in abeyence, but dang, I'm leaning towards some lipo on the hips, honey.

Love the new look fabrics, (dazzling cream LEATHER! - hate to be the housemaid on that one, tho, cleanin' that'll be a bitch) and the dashboard from purgatory, (ain't from heaven or hell!), which nicely looks more like an old Mk1 than ever, 'specially the body colored lower horizontal section - tres chic! Ditch the cheap center plastic, NOW - better be a wood-look option, boys, somethings gotta get that cheezy antique Fiat X19 look outta there sharpish. I'm a bit disturbed by the launch language - "muscular" and "strong" would be excellent adjectives for a brand without an....identity, but looking for one; the MINI already has a HUGE rep, and its real forte is all about cat-quickness in corners, not laying...rubber at the drop of a green. It's only a chick car to guys that need a "richard" car, so emphasize the real MINI, not some imagined buff car.

     BCNU,
   Rob in Dago

P.S. The more I look at that unfortunate rear, I'm worried some ricer's gonna pop-rivet a stolen 911 Whale Tale there, brrrr.

I've also figured out what the mail slot is for on the new model. It's to allow the rain water a direct path onto the spark plug wires, thus bringing back a much missed feature of the classic Mini.
For those who never had the joy of owning one, the radiator and fan were mounted to the side, drawing air through the wheel well, leaving the distributor and spark plug wires in full view of rain and spray behind the grille. For a car that had to deal with English weather you'd think they'd have known better. We had ours die on the M6 one time in pouring rain. A can of WD40 was the most important Mini accessory back then!
All it needs now is a big hook coming down from the inside of the bonnet to spike you in the back of the head after you've been around the engine bay with the WD40...

Shame... it's officially 66/33 weight distribution, not 50/50 and no sign of the flat BRG either. I'm disgusted.
;-)

Very nice PR puffery about bold new design etc, yet BMW have heaped the "Great Leap Forward" with the weakest line of colours imaginable. Bad form you timid Burghers.

Anyone suggest that Sir Mixalot's tune becomes the soundtrack to the forthcoming advertising campaign for the new MINI?

Or possibly Jennifer Lopez. She's afiliated with big butts too.

I think the dark blue is Lightning Blue. A very elusive color so far in MINI press releases. The lighting isn't very good in a lot of the pictures, and I had difficulty determining if it was Lightning blue or odd lighting against Astro Black. I'm still not sure. :)

DB - Is this a translation? The wording seems a little "strange". I saw the photos on the MINI2 slideshow. Does anyone know exactly who it was that was speaking?
