OMG! I want a new one now…the interior is just incredible, is the 07 convertible will be available with the changes? As far as I know they weren’t going to change it until 08.

The new MINI Convertible will be available in the US around February/March of 2009.

Dave, you hit the nail on the head but I'm just not liking some of the changes I see. Yup I loved the Porsche 356 and I hated the 901/911 when it came out but over the years it's gone through so many refinements it's a great car now. Who knew the 911 would become the greatest race car ever! I recently had a ride in a neighbors new Carrera.... WOW!

Credentials or not it's all about personal taste in the end. The Pet Rock is an prime example of that, if you are old enough to remember that phenomenon.

Nice to have a friendly discussion.

Long Live Stan Freberg!

Hey ITZMTOR, thanks for that information. I agree that with your credentials you should have a good eye for a good design. One thing we can all agree on is that we all like the MINI or we would not be posting to this board. It is a great car now, and my hope is that the new one will be even better. I do find that many people do not like change, and look at a restyle on any car as a negative thing, and then they get used to the new one and accept it for what it is, and all is well again. Many times I have read in magazine reviews that "we like the old model better". Human nature I guess. We are comfortable with familiar things.

Dave, I was only commenting that as a designer I know that sometimes a first impression can be misleading and as you said 2D pics are tough to get a read on. But usually car promo shots are a best foot forward type thing.

My thoughts did not state that anybody who thinks differently is a fool or that I was some design guru just merely my thoughts as a graphic designer. If you like what you see fabulous!

I do have 35+ years in my profession as a graphic designer so I do feel a little more qualified to discuss "design" than the average bear but personal taste is another thing.

My field of expertise is: logos, architectural signage/wayfinding, print and so on. Projects I worked on: Downtown Disney/wayfinding, lead designer Graumans Chinese historical rehab/Mann's Chinese 6/ interior and exterior signage ... (not the Mann's Chinese 6 marquee crap), Hyatt's Alo Plaza project/interior/exterior signage/wayfinding...... blah blah blah!

If you click on my WWW shown here you'll see some of my work. I closed my design resource company and website last week to concentrate on other pursuits such as my MINI store and travel.

............................................................................................................

Gabe... Didn't mean to be argumentative just noting that when I see "Written By" thats how I take it. Maybe if it said "Transcribed By" but then I like eggs?

As far as the other comments about MF... I should just keep my thoughts to myself... MF is a great resource, very well designed and easy to navigate unlike some sites/clubs I visit. KUDOS! I can only hope my new venture is one tenth as successful or as warmly received.

£16,000 for a basic Cooper S and NO air-conditioning? Are they for real? Oh, and lets not even start about the 'official' 41mpg for the S either... I think we all know it will be more like 28mpg (if you are lucky).

Otherwise, it all sounds very good.

Wow... very long read. The MINI owner traits list was interesting. I also found it interesting that the R56 was referred to as MINI Mark II early in the press release.

Written by MF Staff…Not CC’d from BMW!

I really don't understand how you are confused about this. Any press release we post is labeled "Official News" at the top. Then at the bottom it specifically says "Source: MINI Press".

MF Staff is what we use when one of us posts content that is not really authored by any MF writer (press releases, links, etc). It's been like this for years.

ITZMTOR, what do you design? You seem to imply that your opinion should carry more weight because you are a "designer" but without knowing what you design one cannot make that assumption. Also, since virtually no one that posts here has actually seen the car, how can any of you possibly critique it? 2D photos and videos do not give a true picture of what the car really looks like. From the pictures, I like it, but I will need to see it and drive it before making up my mind about it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it says: Written by MF Staff...Not CC'd from BMW! Maybe a different designation is in order?

I will CK out past articles to see if my observation is erroneous and if it is I apologize but maybe I expect more than MF is willing to give anymore.

Says Written by MF Staff…….. and a very nice write up it is… a tad Tolstoy-ish… but seems more like BMW/PR. Even some of the crappy auto mags out there do pros and cons. Not sure if a P&C was done here on MF by another as I have been here less lately. Seems that edge I liked from a few years back is gone.

As with all articles categorized as "Official News", this is an official BMW press release. This is how we've been doing things for years. If you feel some sort of "edge is gone" you may want to look at the past few months worth of articles posted over the last 30 days. If you want some sort of pro and con in every single post I urge you to write it in the comments section.

Took words out of my mouth ITZMTOR. I agree. Where is the true newness, the advancement of real design? Is just a restyling, and bad one at that, now is much more comprimised looking and cartoony looking. This is good? What is really better about this car design now? REALLY better?

LEGGO MINI... At first I wasn't sure if I liked what I was seeing... Then as a designer I thought I'll give this a chance so I tried to find something I liked... the more I see it the more it looks like a Scion bad version of the car. Lotsa new and supposedly better stuff but it's just off. The roof is too squatty, not aggressive as noted here, the headlight position is really odd the sidelight markers and center stack are just bizarre.

Then it came to me... itsa Leggo version of the car!

Let's see... OLD..... 1. put in key... 2. twist key to start... NEW... 1. put in fob... 2. push button to start??????? And the difference is .............???? Another car markers system... get in car push button.

Says Written by MF Staff........ and a very nice write up it is... a tad Tolstoy-ish... but seems more like BMW/PR. Even some of the crappy auto mags out there do pros and cons. Not sure if a P&C was done here on MF by another as I have been here less lately. Seems that edge I liked from a few years back is gone.

Hope this isn't considered derogatory commentary.

FYI- that UK gallon is equal to about 1.2 US gallons and those EU standards are different than our EPA's. Still, it's an improvement just the same...
