Wonderful footage! Kinda’ puts my 80 to 90 second videos of autocross runs to shame…
What drives me nuts is that I visited relatives in Nuremburg as a teenager many years ago and could never convince them to take a lap of the ‘Ring. I see now what I missed.
A little more info on the video. I was stationed in Germany for 3 years and bought my Mini while there. The delivering dealer offered to take us up to Nurburgring for the day. An offer I couldn’t refuse. The lead car was a Cooper, the guy ahead of me was in 02 Cooper S and my 04 Cooper S. The video was the first lap. I was stopped on the second lap and told “no video”. After 4 laps the brakes decided they had had enough and were fading…I’m sure due to my skills :). Anyway to sum up. If you get the chance…..GO!

You should post a thread over at NAM or MINI2 under the European section. I am sure you will get a few of us Motoringfile US folks and a few locals to join you.
I only live 40 minutes away so its a short trip for me. I would love to join anyone willing to brave this track.
That’s a great video! I’ve been doing Gran Turismo 4 on this track enough to start getting familiar with it, and I had trouble figuring out where you entered on the circuit.
I was so dissapointed to realize that the entry point chicane is smack dab in the middle of the highest speed section of the whole course!
Is that the normal configuration for general public access?
I think the closest track like that in the USA that you will ever see goes in circles (eg. NAStyCAR)
Question:
So getting to Germany is Easy
Finding Time to go Germany is a bit harder.
Drive my MINI to Germany is not possible, so where can I get one to drive on the Ring?

This is and has always been the entry point for tourist laps (general public as you stated). The reasoning behind this setup is to control the amount of laps you do. The cost of driving this course is done on a per lap setup. So if you pay for 4 laps, then you will need to enter through the ticket machine, do your lap, exit, and re-enter scanning a new ticket. This also prevents any mishaps with traffic merging onto the straight away when first entering.
It is also the entry point for other various functions such as driving schools and amateur races. Only difference is they would close the gates, remove cones and barriers. There is also a few other exits that is in use but not used during tourist days.
Too bad MINI doesn’t offer Euro pick up. After waiting since the introduction of MINI, I finally gave up with their insincere excuses! Last summer sold my 02MCS and Euro picked up a Porsche. Brought it to the “Ring” for a few laps. What a blast!!! Saw alot of Military there enjoying all kinds of cars, several MINIs.
MINI would really do their customers a great service by providing Euro delivery. The cars would be great to drive in Europe.
Very nice video.
Luckaly I live a 1,5 hour drive away from the Ring 🙂
Here’s a video I made the first time I went to the Ring, not a full lap but a compilation of the best moments.
I just watched the whole thing. Great video! I can’t get enough of that supercharger whine 😉
I think I’d get sick and barf as a passenger.
Driving would be fine.
Note to self.. Don’t post a comment half-way through video. It will stop.
Awesome! Noticed the MINI in the video appears to be a US Spec MINI.
Its an American driving. The plates give this away. Probably military or some form of military.

That’s it! No more putting it off!

Anyone know where I can rent a MCS in Frankfurt?
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Now when will the US get a track like that?

As soon as we all stop suing others for our own lack of judgment, common sense and personal responsibility.
