My dealer contacted me today, they want me down, sometime soon, to put in a deposit for the new Clubman. We've been on a "list" for several months now.

Stopped at a Mini dealership today and asked about the Clubman and pricing – “No information, I don’t really know much about it” was the reply. Maybe they should require the sales staff to start the day with a dose of Motoringfile!

With no Clubman badging on the car, I guess a vanity plate will need to fill that void. However, with all of the future variants that have been discussed, we may eventually have 4 or 5 MINI’s simply badged as Coopers? I understand the rationale, but I think car buyers view MINI as the make and Cooper as the model. New variants are going to be seen as separate models and should be badged accordingly. Also, I think the comparison with the ‘vert is a non-starting. Most drop-top variants keep the same model name because it is obvious that is what it is (e.g., a PT Cruiser is a PT Cruiser whether hard or softtop). As others have said, Clubman should appear on the car somewhere, at a minimum, like the Sidewalk.

ThatÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s surprising and actually disappointing to me. I understand that itÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s a variant on the Cooper, but I guess in my mind IÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ve always thought of it as its own car.

It is its own car, just like the convertible is its own car. "Cooper" shouldn't be seen as a distinct model, but rather as a qualification of engine power and equipment level. Actually, it is a lot like "GTI" in "Volkswagen Golf GTI" (for example, Volkswagen also has a Polo GTI in Europe). This is why it makes sense to have a Mini One and a Mini Cooper which have the same basic body shape. And it also makes sense to have a convertible designated Cooper, as it does having an estate designated Cooper.

Personally, I'm glad this has been cleared up and this is the outcome, it makes the most sense to me.

“MINI Cooper S Clubman?” It is a mouth full but it makes sense. If I had my say I would leave the Cooper off of it and make Clubman a new model designation on it’s own. It should appear somewhere on the car!

I think I’d prefer if it didn’t say Clubman on the back. This is a definite aftermarket opportunity. I’m not usually one for appearance mods, but I’d jump right in line to get an aftermarket factory-look Clubman emblem.

It should be labeled Clubman. The badging should be Cooper and Cooper S, then Clubman and Clubman S. The convertible is just a Cooper/Cooper S without a hard top, so of course it wouldn’t be labeled. If they came out with a Clubman convertible, then it would be the same. To me, the Clubman is a completely new model and should be treated that way.

i agree with many people here... i expected to see "clubman s" on the barn door... kind of sad to hear it wont be that way.

i think it is a mistake on mini's behalf. only the mini-literate are going to know its as the clubman- it'll be mini wagon to the laymen before you know it.
