MINI United Interview: Dr. Kay Segler

MU Banner

In this latest MINI United interview we get an exclusive sit down with Dr. Kay Segler, MINI brand vice president. We talk MINI United. Motorsport, and the new MINI Challenge race car among other things. The latter will be the big take-away for many of you. Listen closely as Dr. Segler talks about the “new heart” of the MINI that will debut with the MINI Challenge car and that will eventually make it’s way to a new JCW product. All fascinating stuff for those of us who follow the brand.

So tell the truth. Was techno playing the whole weekend? And how long do you think it will still be playing in your head?

  • Jon

Very happy to hear about the spec racer, should be interesting to see if it makes it to the States. Not sure I must admit that I would love to pursue one of these, not the worlds best boy racer but really enjoy running around the track. Pretty much flatly says that we will not be seeing a factory JCW car for a long while yet, kinda sad but think I will survive the long wait lol.

Thanks guys for another great interview.

I am hearing Dr. Siegler correctly, or he has hinted that a new engine (Probably larger than the current 1.6L prince) will be under the hood of the 2009 factory JCW?

Nice interview. Met Dr. Segler at MTTS, seemed like a good guy – put up with us! The MINI is improving by leaps and bounds, and much seems due to the hands-on of the top dogs there. I’m glad to see they’re nott resting on their laurels.

I heard no hint of a larger engine. In fact he said pretty definitively that this was the perfect engine for this car. Sorry.

  • Nigel

I hope you are right, Lavardera. However, I would not mind a 1.8L engine on my next MINI S.

The weird thing is that over the years of hearing from these guys now and again they almost do start to feel like family in that there is a sense of continuity and familiarity. I mean…these are OUR people!!! Great interview and very interesting!!
