Woot, very nice Gabe. Plus a good job on the first pic of your car, nice composure, the sepia tint from the light actually looks cool on the car. Looking forward to seeing some pics, maybe you can do a walk around video of the car for all us Mini fanatics.

Looking forward to seeing some daylight pics with the aero kit. Yours is the first AB/B I’ve seen other than mine. One question, is the grille on the aero kit the same as the stock one except with black trim instead of chrome?

I just dont like the stock MCS grille and my plan is to get a stock MC grille painted (either in Astro black or jet black), as well as painting the headlight trim rings.

Congrats on your new ride.

Let me know what you think about the power. I’ve been driving mine for about 2 months and I’ve been saying just throw some hp(via stage 1) and it will be awesome…already has a lot of low end power!!

One question, is the grille on the aero kit the same as the stock one except with black trim instead of chrome?

No – it’s a different design (other than being all black).

So, what’s that hood scoop for?

A red LED light that moves back and forth.

NICE! Have “stage 1″ & the JCW suspension been installed, yet?

Nope.

“sepia tint” yeah, that’s called sodium halide streetlights, the natural color of the city.

Gabe, I thought you were getting the clear lenses for the turn-signals. That would look Balla’!

Anyways it looks really bad-ass.

ReplyReply
Gabe Jul 17th, 2007 Link

Gabe, I thought you were getting the clear lenses for the turn-signals. That would look Balla’!

They are clear. The bulb is yellow however.

ReplyReply
Chad Jul 17th, 2007 Link

Why are the bulbs yellow?

ReplyReply
Drill Jul 17th, 2007 Link

With a yellow blinker lens the bulb is typically white but with a clear lens the bulb needs to be yellow in order to “Blink” yellow.

ReplyReply
Drill Jul 17th, 2007 Link

Speaking of which, hey Gabe, when are you putting Silvervision bulbs up front? :-)

ReplyReply
Chad Jul 17th, 2007 Link

But why does it NEED to be yellow? Front turn signals can legally be white. Only the rear ones need to be red/amber.

ReplyReply
Gabe Jul 17th, 2007 Link

As soon as I figure out how to change the bulbs :)

Why are the bulbs yellow?

That’s just the way it comes from MINI, which ships the car worldwide with yellow bulb behind clear lens or clear bulb behind yellow lens. Change the bulb if you want something different from the OEM.

What cars have have front turn signals that blink white, OEM from the factory?

ReplyReply
Drill Jul 17th, 2007 Link
Front turn signals can legally be white.

Not everywhere, however, amber front signals are legal just about everywhere (Don’t know where they wouldn’t be) so it’s much simpler to make them amber.

But why does it NEED to be yellow?

It only “needs” to be amber if he wants the amber light :-)

ReplyReply
Brian Jul 17th, 2007 Link

I’m glad they made the turn signals yellow. I think that the turn signals should always be a different color than the brake light. It seems that more and more cars today have the rear turn signals in red.. or even worse… no separate turn signal at all…the brake light just blinks when the turn signal is activated. Horrible.

Sorry if this was already covered, but what happens with installation cost for VDC installed options (e.g. JCW aero kit, iPod adapter)? If the dealer installs them, you pay their hourly rate. What about VDC installation?

It varies from dealer to dealer. But I can tell you the dealer pays a flat rate when having things installed at the VPC. Hopefully they pass that benefit onto the customer.

Vanwall Jul 17th, 2007 Link

Ah. At night. So it’s black is it? ;-) Good to see it made it, as I always cross my fingers until I’m behind the wheel. I still remember seeing a new ‘Vette fall off the top deck of a transporter at the dealer – while the owner was there watching. Very low ride after it landed upside-down.

ReplyReply
TRHeel Jul 17th, 2007 Link

I must admit I’m not a huge fan of the new design, but that simply looks righteous…

ReplyReply
Greg W Jul 17th, 2007 Link

Hey Paulsminis – only in some countries do they have white blinkers in front. Old Mini UK market always had orange front lenses. The reason is that UK markets had a sidelight in the main headlamp. A bit like BMW E30. Most lights on side panels are orange. This distinguishes them from sidelights/park lights which some people use.

Very good. The R56 looks much better in Astro Black for some reason. Have fun with it but I have a feeling this one will only last another couple of years until the Stage II factory JCW S is launched.

You may say that you will never let go of this one. But a few months ago you also said that you will never let go of your R53 either….
