Ok if we can't get that car they should put out that aerokit modified as it is compared to the original aero kit and some extreme racing parts!
What exactly will be the ultimate JCW upgrade available for the new S?

O.K. folks. Here's your preview of the JCW Stage 2. A street legal version of thios with probably a bit less power but all put together in one complete buy it from any dealer for a bit over $30,000. What do you all think?

Despite his rep, Phil just doesn't have the HP to get a racing series going in the US. Bottom line: It's all up to MINIUSA!

I'd assumed Phil Wicks / Hendrick Automotive's efforts to get a batch of Challenge cars here for a UK type of series kind of just evaporated. I never heard anymore about it and sadly, the fields in Phil's Series this year seem even smaller than last year. The series here seems to be a tough sale.

Is this the car mentioned earlier this year by Phil Wicks when on WRR? I would hope it would be available in the states to those who run the Grand Am series or other road racing events. Obviously it would be considered and sold as off road use only if available.

It doesn't say anywhere that it won't come to the US. But, at the same time, there isn't anything that says it is coming to the US.

I'm not saying you won't be able to get it, but there is a pretty good chance that it won't be from MINIUSA. We discussed this last week during Woofcast #175 I believe.

I certainly hope MINIUSA proves me wrong. I personally would to see this come here and a series started.

If I had to guess, if you really wanted to buy one, you'll be able to order it direct from the factory, pay the adjusted-for-US-dollars price (almost $100KUS) and have it shipped. Remember too that once it gets here, it won't be street legal.

DB:

Here's what was said in the earlier story:

Private customers not competing in the MINI Challenge series can expect deliveries of cars from June 2008. An order form for the car can be downloaded from 11 September 2007 at www.MINI.com/challenge-car and the expected price is €49,900 inc. VAT.

Where does it say that the cars won't come to the US?

Oh the negativity out there! Who says the car isn't coming to the USA for independent racers? MINI hasn't!

No, there isn't going to be a USA Challenge "series" that I'm aware of; but until I hear otherwise, or they deny my application after Sept 11th, then I'm still planning on getting one

Yeah! Little ol' New Zealand gets a mention at last. For you USA racing drivers, there is a possibility you could buy or lease a car and come down to NZ for a few races over your winter period. I believe there are a copule of spare cars. The flight is only 11 hours non-stop from LA or SF. Some of our Kiwi drivers like Scott Dixon are racing in Indy cars in the US series. The NZ and Australian cars are Left hand drive so you would be at an advantage. Any young drivers could study at NZ Universities while here at a fraction of the USA College fee costs.

As we reported here, probably not, at least not in the United States. And that is assuming that it will even come to the States, which it probably will not.

The specs of the CHALLENGE CAR are the same as my JCW MCS homebuilt track car. Maybe more torque for acceleration. But The Challenge is a lot prettier. I'd still have to see one on the track for a comparo. Let's see how they stack up:

210 bhp - check
adjustable coil overs (Koni) - check
LSD - check
Racing brakes and pads (Stoptech w/ Hawk HT-10s) - check
Lightweight alloy wheels (SSR 42mm offset) - check
DOT R rated tires - check (mine are 235/40/17)
Rollcage - check
Recaro racing seat - check
Schroth 6 point harness - check
Curb weight with driver - check
Aero body kit and big wing - no

In addition: Sad Arthur has adjustable rear sway bar, front sway bar, front and rear shock tower braces, adjustable camber plates, adjustable rear control arms.

After reading this, I'm much less keen in owning a Challenge car. It looks like I've already got one, albeit not so pretty. Call it the Wicked Stepsister.
