White Roof Radio #215

mini Starting with a bit of confusion. No, you didn’t hear an edit. Honest, we didn’t spend 20 minutes talking about warranty stuff and cut it out of tonights show. We really didn’t. But, if you tune in next week, there is a good chance we’ll be revisiting it.

AMVIV, or A MINI Vacation in Vegas or the event that Gabe won’t be attending. You should go over and make sure you are registered. By the way, Robert in Toronto and Michael Babischkin will both be there with us. Almost a full crew!

Gabe has news that he, again, is withholding. Maybe one of these days he’ll let us in on what it is. Otherwise, news of the week from Motoringfile.com.

Really looking forward to next weekend. The Portland Oregon auto show will have a Mini display. Have already confirmed that the Clubman will be there. Will be interesting to see how it looks in person.

I’m from New Zealand and we have a total population (all cities) of just over 4 million people. I think most of the major cities in the US have more people than that…so it does somewhat surprise me that NZ can have a MINI Challenge series but the US cant yet put one together. It cant be all down to size and distance between cities? Maybe NZers are just more into Motorsport?

DavidB Jan 21st, 2008 Link

Another great show and thanks for the mention, glad you liked the photos. Have a great time at AMVIV everyone - sounds like a great event, maybe I’ll fly over and rent a MINI for it one year!

Of of the reasons is that many casual “racing fans” here don’t care about anything other than Nascar. If they can’t sit in the stands and see their favorite rotating billboard the entire time they could care less.

So much of the money and interest gets sucked up by “stock car” racing.

I think yourself, DB and Todd should each buy one and start a series of your own! Better yet, MINI USA should donate you a car each as a way of getting the community interested. I could think of worse ways for them to spend their money.

Best quote of the show: NASCAR = Wrestling on Wheels. :)

That’s a great idea. In fact, the three of you should just start a series using your current cars. There’s drama between the GP and the R56 plus DB’s velvet red cooper with 2 million miles on it - something for everyone.

I smell a late-breaking dive into the first turn by Todd that wouldn’t end pretty.

Yesh - and the winner is not the fastest mini, but the MF’r that has the most visceral experience, cause we’ve determined that’s what’s most important after all…

You tryin’ to say something about my driving skills Bridger? ‘Cause you just say the word and it’s on! :-0

Gabe’s JCW is not visceral enough. He needs a new bad boy, something along the lines of a 135i…

No - more that you’re bound to stick that GP nose where it shouldn’t be :-)

Gabe’s JCW is not visceral enough. He needs a new bad boy, something along the lines of a 135i…

I’ll tell you what’s visceral… walking three miles a day to work in single digit temperatures.

Cory Jan 21st, 2008 Link

Speaking of cold weather, when I was living in Ottawa, I once walked to school when it was -40 with the wind chill. That was a wee bit chilly.

c4 Jan 22nd, 2008 Link

That is insane! While I have experienced some real low temps, I have never lived in the frozen white north.

But let me tell you this…. Walking down the street in 95F weather and 100% humidity isn’t pleasant either.

Gabe Jan 22nd, 2008 Link

oh we get that too :)

Dylan Jan 27th, 2008 Link

Quite by accident I met a guy tonight who has raced a MINI Challenge Cooper S in New Zealand. Apparently the only reason New Zealand has a 20 car series is because Team McMillian BMW in New Zealand purchased (for $1!) the 20 Challenge cars that were used in a show race before the Melbourne F1 GP. Now it all makes sense!
