I’d buy one if it was under $26k otherwise I’d just buy a Toyota FJ Cruiser.
ReplyAutotelegraaf is reporting that MINI is planning on debuting the new MINI cross-over (potentially named the “Crossman” this September at the Paris Motor Show. While we have our doubts about the exact information, the article goes on to say that the Crossman will measure just over 3 inches (8 cm) higher and around 157 inches (400 cm) – 9″ longer than the standard MINI coupe which is roughly 146 inches in total length.
Despite what Autotelegraaf is reporting, our sources are telling us that what will actually be shown this fall will be a lightly disguised “concept” similar to the Traveller concepts shown a few years ago that previewed the Clubman. We expect the final production cross-over to remain behind closed doors until just before it’s public debut until 2010 – likely the latter half.
You can read more on the new cross-over in the MF R60 section.

ReplyOK, just to make sure I have this straight… it’ll be a 2010 model so it should be hitting the road sometime in the latter half of 2009… right?
Reply^ if it does as the R56, R55 and the R57: it would hit European roads in late 2009 and US roads in early 2010
ReplyI doubt this will be a production version. If anything, I bet it will be more of a prototype to fish people’s opinion on it.
BTW, I am really looking forward to the R60.
ReplyLooks kind of cool in the green. I hope you meant to write that it will be 157 inches, or 11 inches longer than the standard coupe.
ReplyIf concept cars are a float to get opinions why is it that everyone always loves the concept cars and when production comes they water it all down, and give us nothing we liked about the concept?
ReplyWill average buyer be able to afford to drive anything in 2010?
The average buyer couldn’t afford the car 5 years ago. look around, most sales are leases because they cant afford to buy so they rent them instead, and the average person trades in cars so often that every time they get a new one they have negative equity from the last deal or two or three deals.
I hate to be the one that points at the elephant in the room BUT… If The average buyer is pinched by 4 dollar gas its because they are in debt up to thier eyeballs ….act your wage, live debt free!
ReplyA very small ute that gets good gas milage. The timing seems to be lining up for another home run for Mini.
ReplyGood news, I will be in Europe at this time and might have to go to see this development in person. I will make sure not to eat before hand though so I don’t toss cookies while looking at yet another suv. ;)
ReplyDr. You speak the truth my friend.
And remember that truth really hurts.
Reply157 inches is a typo, right?
Wow, Chad, I hope so! I didn’t realize that they mean it will be 157 inches LONGER. That would mean double the length of the coupe???? Am I reading this wrong???
Reply157 inches is a typo, right? My guess is that it should be 15.7in (400mm)
ReplySo only 3 or 6 inches longer than the Clubman? That’s not that great for an SAV.
ReplyHmmmmmm a 4×4 MINI, this might get me to sell my old pick up that I have as a winter car
ReplyIt is a jacked up R56. The Clubman is a longer R56. So what’s your point?
ReplyI can’t wait! Please MINI, offer a “woody wagon” version. I realize it would be nothing more than fascia panels bonded to the painted surface, but it would look way cool. Add a couple of moon roofs, a standard rooftop utility rack for hauling surfboards and, of course, seating for 5 adults. I can’t decide if I like the barn doors or a tailgate in the rear…
3 inches higher isn’t much. That doesn’t leave enough room for real truck-like tires. At least give us as much ground clearance as the Honda CRV. Or, even better, make a strictly street version (pkg.) and an on/off-road version (pkg.) available to prospective buyers.
This model will prove to be HUGE for MINI. And no Jon, I am not talking about dimensions.
ReplyDefinitely looking forward to seeing the vehicle. As for fuel prices – I’ll wait and see what happens around R60 launch time.
As for possibly purchasing the R60, I’m waiting to see:
1) its price (especially compared to over AWD vehicles), 2) its power & economy, 3) what engine options will be available (whether it will be offered in turbo diesel or twin turbo diesel, etc), and 4) if offered only on the Prince petrol turbo engine variant, whether the engine knock sound issue is resolved because I imagine that an AWB drivetrain load will be more stressful on the engine compared to existing front wheel drive.
ReplyWas that C4 up there defending the R56? Jeesalou – its almost enough to make me swing over the fat bloated whineless cheap accountant camp…
Reply>Do we have confirmation that it will be a 4 door?
Yes – check out the R60 section for more details.
ReplyO(=^=)O Capn May 28th, 2008 Link Too bad it looks like an R56. C4 May 28th, 2008 Link It is a jacked up R56. The Clubman is a longer R56. So what’s your point?
Well, If you have to ask…
