i love it… really. :)
ReplyKnowing that it would be the hot topic for days and weeks (and years) to come, Todd and I sat down a few days ago and recorded a quick conversation around the MINI Crossover Concept. This was before any images were release to the public (before the embargo was broken) and before we had the official press release. Still it’s worth a listen to hear some thoughts on the new car and to hear Todd’s reaction as he’s seeing it for the first time.

i loathe it… really
No doubt its going to sell, then again ugly SUVs are sold all the time. Can hardly wait to see the first R60 with large spinners. Wonder how long it would take for security to lead me out of the show if I stood by their booth saying the hundreds of anti-SUV sayings Mini has based their cars on. lol
Very sad to hear that the 50th is going to be nothing more than a little fluff. One would think it would be a great time for something to raise a stir like the GP did.
ReplyI don’t think this will be much bigger than the Clubman. It does look a bit “hefty” in the photos, but I am betting still very MINI proportions in person.
.. just a bit higher off the ground.
ReplyThe stats are:
Clubman
56.4″ high 66.3 wide 100.3″ wheelbase
R60
62.9″ high 72.0″ wide 102.6″ wheelbase
So about 5.5″ taller, nearly 6″ wider, and about 2.5″ longer wheel base.
I am betting on gaining around a couple hundred pounds at minimum, more with an AWD system.
Longer and wider than a Land Rover Defender or Jeep Wrangle.
Wider than: Mitsubishi Outlander,Honda CRV,Subaru Forester, Honda Element.
None of which I would call Mini
ReplyDo you guys smoke up before you record these audio rambles? It sounds that way.
ReplyOk – anyone notice the fuel filler has changed sides? and will the rear door open from the left or right (like the clubdoor position controversy).
ReplyJames… Ohhh the lipstick comments! Can’t wait to see the explosion of pigs wearing lipstick everywhere….
ReplyAny idea of this will be a more suitable platform for Mini or others to field a Rally effort?
ReplyBTW the photo on this article is mis-captioned R56 Mini One (please just delete this after you correct)
Reply“Any idea of this will be a more suitable platform for Mini or others to field a Rally effort?”
Unless they are putting in a 2L motor the answer is NO!
Has anyone seen anything about what the motive power is going to be? Will it be typical MINI running gear or are they going to share running gear with the X-1. Maybe an I6 3.5L. OK, maybe that is a little too hopeful.
