The MINI E should have sub 6 second 0-60 times. After all electric motors should have instant torque delvery. The damn batteries must be at least 200 pounds each.

What is the laden weight of the MINI E? It must be at least 600 pounds more than a regular MINI.

Noit until battery and superconductive technologies get to the point of offering cheap, lightweight and increased range battery support, to me electric cars will continue to be a novelty, or rather, a toy for rich folks. Imagine the progress that would have been made in these areas had GM would not have killed the EV-1 project at the end of the 1990's?

I think the US government, if they'll ever bailout the Detroit car markers with our hard earned money, is to make it a requirement for them to quickly bring to market plug in Hybrid vehicles like the upcoming Chevy Volt.

That has to be a fake sound to give it the impression of moving fast. I have had other electric cars around me and they don’t sound anything like that…. actually they are silent. :)

Very cool! Was just listening to it with headphones and it does have “jet” like sounds every so often. Almost a whistling sound.

Maybe it's my imagination, but the car sounds like its powered by a jet turbine up close. I like it.

No burble, no gurgle? I know it's the future, but I am going to need a CD of engine sounds to play as I drive.

How long did it take MINI to take the E from an idea to where it is now? Seems to me they did it pretty fast. If you saw the Detroit execs testifying yesterday, they talked about how long it takes to get from point A to point B. Plus, has anyone in Detroit even considered the concept of letting you build your car online and delivering it in 6-8 weeks? No wonder we're bailing them out.
