MINI Challenge Round 8 Preview

I wonder if there is any interest in MINI activities from down-under or outside continental USA, apart from a few MF contributors or ex-patriot Australians. Perhaps the MINI Challenge series should be an international event much like the A1 Grand Prix open-wheeler series which sees one car per nation in races in each country. With the current economic outlook, and the pull-out of Formula One by Honda, the cash outlay required to operate a race-car must be under scrutiny.

That’s a salient point Greg. The MINI CHALLENGE is a relatively inexpensive way to get into a “serious” nationwide category in Australia. And yet, to complete a full 8 round season this year would have taken a substantial six figure budget, in addition to the lease agreement/ownership of the racecar.

Oddly enough, the MINI CHALLENGE had plenty of driver/team changes throughout the year as it tried to find its feet. Meanwhile, the Porsche Carerra Cup series down under is fully subscribed. The purchase price of one Carerra Cup car would see you run a full season in the MC!

I guess there is no truly cheap form of motor racing!
