hear hear!
This from our friends over at Leftlanenews. It’s quite a different story than we’ve been hearing from some dealers especially in the US. But we certainly welcome the news. Here’s an excerpt:
Thanks to healthy demand for its small, sprightly coupes and convertibles, as well as plans for its upcoming Crossman off-roader, Mini says that it expects to see an increase in sales next year, despite a generally dismal outlook expected by most industry analysts. Mini is aiming for a 1 percent increase in sales this year.
It’s nice to see a car company, in the midst of quite a few other car companies, actually doing well. Even nicer, at least to this group, that’s it’s a car we are all pretty big fans of.

Lets hope this comes true, still Mini is about the only brand that has even a glimmer of hope of increasing sales this year.
makes sense – the crossover would in a sense be a new market, so even if they sold less cars, if the sold more crossovers than the decrease in cars they would still show growth.
This prediction is coming from MINI not from MINI USA. So they are expecting, on average, a small increase worldwide. Of course there are two things implied here. First that we will see the Crossover in dealers this year and second that the increase in sales will be due to new model introductions.
Ah just can’t wait to take my Mini in to a dealer for its next oil change and puke on a SUV Mini ;)
I’m wondering how that ‘other’ small car is doing – the SMART car. Anyone hear anything about them?
I guess maybe it’s good to have some optimism.
But the dealership where I bought my car has over 100 MINIs in inventory according to their website. Now, I don’t know if those are cars that are already spoken for or truly sitting on the lot for sale. I will be heading over there next week for a service visit so it will be interesting to see how many cars are piled up there.
Is the Crossman really going to be considered an “off-roader” or just an all-wheel drive good for winter driving? Also didn’t MINI announce a couple of months ago that the name Crossman was going to change to something else? Has anyone heard anymore about that?
The crossover is being built with on-road AWD for heavy weather areas. I figure this will allow soccer moms to climb the tallest of speed bumps on their way to practice ;). Nothing official has come out about this bloated “mini”’s name yet.
awd = more things to go wrong/heavy. But I’m very interested in what the final form will look like.
