I’ve decided that I want make running footage for car companies as a career. It would be a hard life, but somebody would have to do it. LOL.

  • Robert

All right Gabe and Todd, you two have to admit that’s way cooler than in a hard top! Just listen to her!

  • Ron

This exposes a new feature of the new cabrio that I hadn’t read about before — you can apparently drop the top even when the car is moving, albeit at slowish speeds. The old cabrio (at least my 2006) was very strict about this; you couldn’t start dropping it until the car was completely stopped, and if you started going over 5mph while it was dropping it would immediately stop.

The new toggle switches in the roof, replacing the buttons for dropping the top in the old cabrio (borrowed from the Z4) are a nice touch.

Oh well. Like the R56 there are a ton of minor improvements and a few minor steps backwards…

  • Sue

Big deal. Show me another video when it is snowing. I drove my 06 cabrio through Sequoia National Park with my motorcycling friends. Top down, snowing and 26 degrees. Oh, my heated seats worked well to warm up their hands.

  • Josh

I am with you Richard. I would love to do that for a living. Perhaps we could make videos a little more exciting than this one. But I do like the winter drivers puffy Mini coat! hhahah

The MINI convertible in the Video has the JCW Kit installed right?

  • Brian

    Is that the factory exhaust?

Man, that was a really boring video. I gave up after 3 minutes.

Of course, none of the joy of winter top-down motoring is news to David Rose… :-) I’m hoping this year’s Tour du Nord is a little less … exciting. It’ll be my first one!

Paul Mullett of MINI2 drives the R57 at the cold, snowy press launch…

Why don’t the convertible S’s come with the nice filler cap?

Brilliant little beast – makes a great noise and looks really smart on the new black alloys. Makes me a bit sad that I will be handing in my black (non-metallic) 05 S Convertible for a 09 Clubby S in a few weeks. Better enjoy the little time we have left. Very unhappy to see the boot hinges go though – they were a bit daft as far as cargoability is concerned (as is the top open % conter), but they were a cleanly executed nod to Minis of yesteryear.

I also wonder how improved is the cowl and shake in this new model – the problems with my car amount to almost laughably negative rigidity. Anyone notice how the top tucks itself in at the end?

And also, maybe I just completely missed this, but the front and rear fog lights are now combined – what does the previous front fog light switch now do.

So no armrest in this one, it will not be factory. I like the open icon on the dsiplay. Push button will not be one touch. They did not have the power on at NAIAS to operate the top. I did turn the parking lights one but to many people around to put the top up an down.

One car had the armrest and one did not. NAIAS
