there is also a high-speed stability dynamic, but im guessing these parts, while taking that into consideration during the design phase, are more for styling. after all, MINI is all about you-ification. make it yours, make it look cool!

^^ i'd bet on neither.

you really think the clubman needs a a spoiler as anything other than a styling point...?

I also like the original spoiler, this seems typical of what has been offered in the past. My thoughts run more to which one works better?

I am really glad MINI has decided to make this a dealer accessory and I am also really happy I didn’t option for the factory roof rails and went with the removable ones. I missed checking the box for the spoiler when I ordered my Clubby and over the months have been regretting the decision (or indecision). I was also torn because the original accessory spoiler really didn’t appear to work well in the configurator with a body color-matching roof (black roof and spoiler looks really sharp though). Anyway, just happy to have this option and I hope it isn’t near $400 because I will be first on the list.

I actually quite like the original accessory spoiler a lot. It looks much better in person than in pictures or diagrams.

As for the new spoiler. I'm not so sure this is going to be officially supported as a retrofitable accessory. Much like the new '09 Clubman Roof Rails, it has a factory ordering option and does not appear anywhere in the parts catalogue as an accessory or retrofit and there are no current installation instructions available. It also looks like this, like the roof rails, would require drilling holes in the clubman roof. As evidenced by the R50/53 accessory roof rack fiasco, drilling in to sheet metal is not something many owners are fond of considering, nor something MINI really wants happening at the dealer level.

Just my 2 cents.

Much better looking development.

Still trying to understand how the current design ever got out of a design department and through all the levels of Mini to reach production.

How is the JCW spoiler for the Clubman "a version of an R56 accessory?" It is completely exclusive to the Clubman. It is completely different than any of the R56 spoilers and can not be installed on an R56. This "new" spoiler is just the one that the factory has been offering since late 2008 MY. The biggest difference (other than the shape) is that this one doesn't just stick on, it bolts on. IMHO it also looks a lot better.
